وَعَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - وَعَنِ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَ : " كَانَ رَجُلٌ مِمَّنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ لَمْ يَعْمَلْ خَيْرًا قَطُّ إِلَّا التَّوْحِيدَ ، فَلَمَّا احْتُضِرَ قَالَ لِأَهْلِهِ : انْظُرُوا إِذَا أَنَا مِتُّ أَنْ تَحْرِقُوهُ حَتَّى تَدَعُوهُ حُمَمًا ، ثُمَّ اطْحَنُوهُ ، ثُمَّ اذْرُوهُ فِي يَوْمٍ رَاحٍ . فَلَمَّا مَاتَ فَعَلُوا بِهِ ذَلِكَ ، فَإِذَا هُوَ فِي قَبْضَةِ اللَّهِ ، فَقَالَ اللَّهُ - عَزَّ وَجَلَّ - : يَا ابْنَ آدَمَ ، مَا حَمَلَكَ عَلَى مَا فَعَلْتَ ؟ قَالَ : أَيْ رَبِّ ، مَخَافَتُكَ ! قَالَ : فَغَفَرَ لَهُ بِهَا ، وَلَمْ يَعْمَلْ خَيْرًا قَطُّ إِلَّا التَّوْحِيدَ " . رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ ، وَإِسْنَادُ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رِجَالُهُ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ ، وَفِي إِسْنَادِ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ مَنْ لَمْ يُسَمَّ . قُلْتُ : وَقَدْ رُوِيَ هَذَا مِنْ حَدِيثِ جَمَاعَةٍ مِنَ الصَّحَابَةِ ، قَدْ ذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ كُلَّهُ فِي التَّوْبَةِ فِي بَابِ فِيمَنْ خَافَ مِنْ ذَنْبِهِ .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and Ibn Sirin from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), report that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Among the people before you there was a man who had never done any good, except that he held firm to Tawhid (the belief in the Oneness of Allah). When his final hour approached, he said to his family: 'See to it that when I die, you burn me until I become charcoal, then grind me, and then scatter those ashes on a windy day.' When the man died, his family did that with him. When he was brought into the presence of Allah Almighty, Allah Almighty said: 'O son of Adam! Why did you do what you did?' He said: 'O my Lord! Out of fear of You.'" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "So the Lord forgave him because of that (fear), although he had done no good deed other than affirming Tawhid."
Ahmad recorded it. The narrators of the chain of Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) are the narrators of the Sahih, and the chain of Ibn Sirin contains a person who is not named. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say:
This report has been transmitted from a group of the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them); I have recorded all those reports in the Book of Repentance, in the chapter: One who fears on account of his sin.
