Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and we were ten people including myself. A man from the Ansar stood up and said: "O Prophet of Allah! Who is the most intelligent of people, and who is the most prudent?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The one who remembers death the most, and who has prepared the most for death before death comes. They are the intelligent ones; they have gone away with the honour of this world and the karamah (dignity) of the Hereafter." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Ibn Majah recorded it in abridged form.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Saghir, and its chain is hasan (good).
