وَعَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ - يَعْنِي ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ - قَالَ : وَالَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ، مَا مِنْ نَفْسٍ حَيَّةٍ إِلَّا الْمَوْتُ خَيْرٌ لَهَا إِنْ كَانَ بَرًّا ، إِنَّ اللَّهَ - عَزَّ وَجَلَّ - يَقُولُ : وَمَا عِنْدَ اللَّهِ خَيْرٌ لِلْأَبْرَارِ . وَإِنْ كَانَ فَاجِرًا ; فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ - عَزَّ وَجَلَّ - يَقُولُ : وَلَا يَحْسَبَنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا أَنَّمَا نُمْلِي لَهُمْ خَيْرٌ لِأَنْفُسِهِمْ إِنَّمَا نُمْلِي لَهُمْ لِيَزْدَادُوا إِثْمًا . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ بِإِسْنَادَيْنِ ، وَرِجَالُ أَحَدِهِمَا رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ غَيْرَ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ ، وَهُوَ حَسَنُ الْحَدِيثِ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: By the One besides whom there is no god! Whoever is alive today, death is better for him if he is righteous, for Allah Almighty has said: "And what is with Allah is better for the righteous." And if a person is a sinner, Allah Almighty has said: "And let not those who disbelieve think that the respite We grant them is good for them; We only grant them respite so that they may increase in sin."
Al-Tabarani recorded it with two chains; the narrators of one of them are the narrators of the Sahih, except Yazid bin Abi Ziyad, who is hasan al-hadith (good in hadith).
