Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Whenever Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Rawahah (may Allah be pleased with him) met any man from among the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he would say: "Come, let us believe in our Lord for a while (that is, let us remember Him for a while)." One day he said this to a man, and the man became angry. He went to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, have you not seen Ibn Rawahah? He turns people away from your faith towards the faith of an hour!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "May Allah Almighty have mercy on Ibn Rawahah! He loves the gatherings over which the angels take pride."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Rawahah (may Allah be pleased with him), who was making remembrance with his companions (that is, admonishing them). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You are a group with whom Allah Almighty has commanded me to keep myself." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: "And keep yourself patiently with those who call upon their Lord morning and evening", up to: "and whose affair has exceeded all bounds." (The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:) "As for the number of you sitting here, the same number of angels sit with such people. If they glorify Allah, the angels glorify Him too; if they praise Allah, the angels praise Him too; and if they declare the greatness of Allah, the angels declare His greatness too. Then those angels ascend to the presence of the Lord, and the Lord knows better than them. The angels say: 'O our Lord, Your servants were glorifying You, so we glorified You too; they were declaring Your greatness, so we declared Your greatness too; they were praising You, so we praised You too.' Then our Lord says: 'O My angels, I make you witnesses that I have forgiven them.' The angels say: 'Among them was such-and-such a sinful person.' Then Allah Almighty says: 'They (the people of remembrance) are such people that the one who sits with them is not left wretched (that is, deprived).'"
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Saghir; its chain contains Muhammad bin Hammad al-Kufi, who is da'if (weak).

The people said: "O Messenger of Allah, where are the gardens of Paradise?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The gatherings of remembrance. Remember Allah morning and evening, and remember Him in your hearts as well. Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah Almighty has angels who roam about, seeking out the circles of remembrance. When they come to those circles, they surround them. Then they send their envoy to the sky, to the presence of the Lord of Might, and they say: 'O our Lord, we came to some of Your servants who were acknowledging the greatness of Your blessings, reciting Your Book, sending blessings upon Your Prophet Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and asking You for (the good of) this world and the Hereafter.' The Lord says: 'Cover them with My mercy!' The angels say: 'O our Lord, among them was such-and-such a sinful person; he only came to them for a little while.'
