A slave woman of Sayyiduna Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Once Sayyiduna Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him) became gravely ill; his condition worsened so much that he fell unconscious. When he regained consciousness, we were sitting around him weeping. He asked: Why are you weeping? Did you think that I would die on my bed? My beloved (peace and blessings be upon him) told me that a rebellious group will kill me, and that the very last thing I will drink in this world is milk.
Abu Ya'la recorded it, and al-Tabarani recorded something similar, except that he narrated these words: "Sayyiduna Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) told me: I will be killed between two ranks." Al-Bazzar recorded it in abridged form; its chain is hasan (good), I do not know the slave woman of Sayyiduna Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him), and the rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Ibrahim bin Abd al-Rahman bin Awf said: At Siffin, on the day Sayyiduna Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him) was martyred, I heard him say, calling out loudly: "I am about to present myself before the All-Compelling (al-Jabbar), and I will be married to the wide-eyed maidens (al-hur al-'in), and today I will meet my beloved ones, Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and his party. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took a covenant from me that the last thing you take from this world will be thin milk mixed with water."

Some of the people disliked this, and some said: Let him come in! He came in, and he was a man wearing pieces of cloth on his body. He said: I lived in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); at that time I used to tend my family's goats. A man among those present said: O Abu al-Ghadiyah! How was the matter of Sayyiduna Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him)? He replied: We used to count Sayyiduna Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him) among the best of us, until one day I heard him in the Mosque of Quba criticising Sayyiduna Uthman al-Ghani (may Allah be pleased with him). Had it been within my power, I would have trampled him with this foot of mine. After that, after every prayer I used to supplicate: O Allah! Bring me face to face with Ammar! Then, when the day of the Battle of Siffin came, a man came out in front of me who was commanding a detachment of troops. The two of us exchanged two blows with each other; then I sprang at him, struck him, and killed him.

In one narration the wording is: Abd al-A'la said: Let him come in. He was brought in, and he had pieces of cloth on his body. He was a tall man, of such a build as though he did not belong to this Ummah. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: After this he mentioned the narration as before, until he related these words: "When the day of the Battle of Siffin came, he came walking at the front of the detachment, until, between the two armies, he struck a man in his knee with a spear and threw him down. His helmet came off, and at that moment I struck him, and it was the head of Sayyiduna Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him)." The narrator says: Our mawla (or: our master) said to him: Which of his two hands will join him (to it)? I have never seen a man more misguided than him. Al-Tabarani recorded all these narrations, and Abdullah recorded them in abridged form. The narrators of one of al-Tabarani's two chains are the narrators of the Sahih. Before this, some narrations have already passed in the Book of Tribulations (Kitab al-Fitan) in which the mutual differences of the Companions are mentioned.
