وَعَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ : أَنَّ عَمْرَو بْنَ الْعَاصِ قَالَ لِمُعَاوِيَةَ : يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ، أَمَا سَمِعْتَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَقُولُ حِينَ كَانَ يَبْنِي الْمَسْجِدَ لِعَمَّارٍ : " إِنَّكَ حَرِيصٌ عَلَى الْجِهَادِ ، وَإِنَّكَ لَمِنْ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ ، وَلَتَقْتُلَنَّكَ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ " . قَالَ : بَلَى قَالَ : فَلِمَ قَتَلْتُمُوهُ ؟ قَالَ : وَاللَّهِ مَا تَزَالُ تَدْحَضُ فِي بَوْلِكَ ، نَحْنُ قَتَلْنَاهُ ؟ إِنَّمَا قَتْلَهُ الَّذِي جَاءَ بِهِ . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَرِجَالُهُ ثِقَاتٌ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin al-Harith (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Sayyiduna Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him): O Commander of the Believers, have you not heard this narration, that at the time of building the mosque the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him): "You are eager for jihad, you are one of the people of Paradise, and a rebellious group will kill you." Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: Yes indeed! He asked: Then why did you kill him? He replied: By Allah, you will keep on getting wet in your own urine (that is, when will your childishness end?). Did we kill him? The one who had him killed is the one who brought him (onto the battlefield).
