Abu al-Bakhtari and Maysarah narrate: On the day of the Battle of Siffin, Sayyiduna Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him) kept taking part in the fighting, but he was not martyred. He would come to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and say: O Commander of the Faithful! Is this not such-and-such a day? Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) would say: Put it away from yourself! The narrator says: This happened three times. Then milk was brought, and Sayyiduna Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him) drank it. Then he said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This will be the last drink that I drink in this world." Then he got up, took part in the fighting, and was martyred.
Al-Tabarani and Abu Ya'la recorded it with various chains. Some of its chains contain Ata bin al-Sa'ib, whose memory had deteriorated (taghayyur); the rest of the narrators of this narration are thiqat (trustworthy), and its remaining chains are da'if (weak).
