In one narration the wording is: Abd al-A'la said: Let him come in. He was brought in, and he had pieces of cloth on his body. He was a tall man, of such a build as though he did not belong to this Ummah. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: After this he mentioned the narration as before, until he related these words: "When the day of the Battle of Siffin came, he came walking at the front of the detachment, until, between the two armies, he struck a man in his knee with a spear and threw him down. His helmet came off, and at that moment I struck him, and it was the head of Sayyiduna Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him)." The narrator says: Our mawla (or: our master) said to him: Which of his two hands will join him (to it)? I have never seen a man more misguided than him. Al-Tabarani recorded all these narrations, and Abdullah recorded them in abridged form. The narrators of one of al-Tabarani's two chains are the narrators of the Sahih. Before this, some narrations have already passed in the Book of Tribulations (Kitab al-Fitan) in which the mutual differences of the Companions are mentioned.
