Kulthum bin Jabr narrates: I was at Wasit al-Qasab with Abd al-A'la bin Abdullah in the house of Anbasah bin Sa'id, when a man came and said: The killer of Sayyiduna Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him) is at the door; will you permit him to come in? Some of the people disliked this, and some said: Let him come in! He came in, and he was a man wearing pieces of cloth on his body. He said: I lived in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); at that time I used to tend my family's goats. A man among those present said: O Abu al-Ghadiyah! How was the matter of Sayyiduna Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him)? He replied: We used to count Sayyiduna Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him) among the best of us, until one day I heard him in the Mosque of Quba criticising Sayyiduna Uthman al-Ghani (may Allah be pleased with him). Had it been within my power, I would have trampled him with this foot of mine. After that, after every prayer I used to supplicate: O Allah! Bring me face to face with Ammar! Then, when the day of the Battle of Siffin came, a man came out in front of me who was commanding a detachment of troops. The two of us exchanged two blows with each other; then I sprang at him, struck him, and killed him.
