Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The pleasure of the Lord lies in the pleasure of the father, and the displeasure of the Lord lies in the displeasure of the father."
Al-Bazzar recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Ismah bin Muhammad, who is matruk (abandoned).
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever wishes that his life be lengthened and his provision be increased, let him treat his parents well and treat his relatives well." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: This report is in the Sahih, but without the mention of treating parents well.
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
Hadith Takhrij«اخرجه احمد فى المسند (266/3) ، أخرجه صحيح البخاري برقم: 1961، 5640، وأخرجه صحيح مسلم برقم: 4638، وأخرجه مسند أحمد برقم: 12988، 13173، 13399»
Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Obedience to Allah Almighty lies in obedience to the father, and disobedience to Allah Almighty lies in disobedience to the father."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat from his teacher Ahmad bin Ibrahim bin Abdullah bin Kaysan, who is layyin (soft, weak); he narrated it from Isma'il bin Amr al-Bajali, whom Ibn Hibban and others declared trustworthy, while Abu Hatim and others declared him da'if (weak). The remaining narrators of this report are the narrators of the Sahih.
Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever treats his parents well, glad tidings are for him; Allah Almighty increases his lifespan."
Abu Ya'la and al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Zabban bin Fa'id, whom Abu Hatim declared trustworthy while others declared him da'if (weak). The remaining narrators of Abu Ya'la are thiqat (trustworthy).
Sayyiduna Rafi' bin Makith (may Allah be pleased with him), who had the honour of being present at al-Hudaybiyah, narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Treating parents well increases one's lifespan, and charity prevents an evil death."
Ahmad recorded it as part of a long hadith, from one of the descendants of Sayyiduna Rafi' (may Allah be pleased with him); others have named him as Muhammad bin Khalid bin Rafi'. So its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy) on the basis of the one who named him.
Sayyiduna Buraydah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! I carried my mother on my neck for two farsakhs in intense heat; it was such heat that if a piece of meat had been thrown there, it would have cooked. Have I fulfilled my gratitude to her?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Perhaps this may make up for a single pain (of hers)."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Saghir. Its chain contains a narrator, al-Hasan bin Abi Ja'far, who is da'if (weak) but not a liar, and a narrator, Layth bin Abi Sulaym, who is a mudallis.
It is reported from the same Companion: A man carried his mother and took her around in tawaf. He asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Have I fulfilled her right?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No! This does not even make up for a single pain (of hers)," or words to that effect.
Al-Bazzar recorded it with the chain of the preceding report.
Sayyidah Aishah Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and with him was an old man. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: "O so-and-so! Who is this with you?" He replied: "My father." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not walk ahead of him, do not sit down before him, do not call him by his name, and do not cause him to be reviled."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. He says: It is not narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) except with this chain, which he narrated from his teacher Ali bin Sa'id bin Bashir, who is layyin (soft, weak); Ibn Daqiq al-Id reported that he was declared trustworthy. Its chain contains a narrator, Muhammad bin Ar'arah bin Yazid, whom I do not know. The remaining narrators of this report are the narrators of the Sahih.
Abu Ghassan al-Dabbi said: I was walking along with my father over the stony ground (al-Harrah) when Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) met me. He asked me: "Who is this?" I replied: "This is my father." He said: "Do not walk ahead of your father; rather, walk behind him or at his side. Do not let anyone come between you and him. Do not walk upon a raised place (a rooftop) while your father is beneath it. And do not eat a meaty bone that your father has looked at; perhaps he desired it." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: This report will come in full in the chapter on disobedience to parents.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. I do not know the narrator Abu Ghassan, nor Abu Ghanm who narrates from him. The remaining narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy).
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A man from Yemen emigrated to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "You have abandoned polytheism, but jihad remains. Are your parents in Yemen?" He replied: "Yes." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Did they give you permission?" He replied: "No." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go back to your parents and ask their permission. If they give it, well and good; otherwise, keep treating them well."
Ahmad recorded it, and its chain is hasan (good).
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "I long to take part in jihad, but I am not able to." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Is either of your parents still living?" He replied: "My mother." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then please Allah Almighty by treating her well! When you do that, you will have a reward like that of one who performs Hajj, one who performs Umrah and one who fights in jihad. When your mother is pleased with you (you will receive this reward), so keep fearing Allah Almighty and treat her well."
Abu Ya'la recorded it, and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Saghir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. The narrators of both are the narrators of the Sahih, except Maymun bin Najih, and Ibn Hibban declared him trustworthy.
Mu'awiyah bin Jahimah narrates from his father: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to seek his advice about taking part in jihad. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Do you have parents?" I said: "Yes." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Stay with them both, for Paradise lies beneath their feet."
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
Sayyiduna Talhah bin Mu'awiyah al-Sulami (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! I want to take part in jihad in the path of Allah." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Is your mother alive?" I replied: "Yes." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Stay by her feet; Paradise is there."
Al-Tabarani recorded it from Ibn Ishaq, who is a mudallis, from Muhammad bin Talhah, whom I do not know. The remaining narrators of this report are the narrators of the Sahih.
Nu'aym, the freed slave of Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her), said: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) set out for Hajj. Between Makkah and Madinah he came to a tree, recognised it and sat beneath it. Then he related: I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) (sitting) beneath this tree when a young man appeared from this mountain pass. He came and stood before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! I have come to take part in jihad with you in the path of Allah, seeking thereby the pleasure of Allah Almighty and the reward of the Hereafter." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Are both your parents alive?" He replied: "Yes." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go back and treat them both well." So the man turned and went back the way he had come.
Abu Ya'la recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Ibn Ishaq, who is a mudallis and thiqah (trustworthy). The remaining narrators of this report are the narrators of the Sahih, if the freed slave of Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) is Na'im, which is correct; if he is Nu'aym, then I do not know him. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Some hadiths of this kind have already passed in the chapter on jihad.
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Treat your parents well, and your children will treat you well; remain chaste, and your women will remain chaste."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except al-Tabarani's teacher Ahmad, whose lineage is not stated. It appears that he is one of those from whom al-Tabarani narrated abundantly, and perhaps for that reason he did not state his lineage. And Allah knows best.
Sayyidah Aishah Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Remain chaste, and your women will remain chaste; treat your fathers well, and your children will treat you well." Then the narrator mentioned the rest of the hadith; the complete report has already passed in the Book of Manners, in the chapter on offering excuses.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains a narrator, Khalid bin Yazid al-Umari, who is a kadhdhab (liar).
Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that he was present with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at the Farewell Hajj, and the first thing the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said was: "Indeed, Allah Almighty enjoins you regarding your mothers." Then the narrator mentioned the rest of the hadith.
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Muhammad bin Isma'il bin Ayyash, who is da'if (weak).
Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A woman came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! To whom should I show the most kindness?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "To your mother." She asked: "Then to whom?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "To your mother." She asked: "Then to whom?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "To your mother." She asked: "Then to whom?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "To your father."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains a narrator, Sulayman bin Dawud al-Yamami, who is matruk (abandoned).
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! I have a wife, and also a mother and a father. Which of them is most entitled to my kindness?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Your mother, your father, your sister, your brother, and then your nearest relatives, degree by degree."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and al-Bazzar recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, al-Sari bin Isma'il, who is matruk (abandoned). Al-Bazzar also recorded something similar with a hasan (good) chain, other than the chain that preceded it.
Sayyiduna Usamah bin Sharik (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I was present with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at the Farewell Hajj, and he said: "Your mother, your father, your sister, your brother, then your nearest relatives, degree by degree."
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except Abdullah bin Ahmad bin Hanbal, who is thiqah (trustworthy) and thabt (firmly reliable). (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Some hadiths of this kind have already passed in the Book of Zakah, in the chapter on the upper hand being better than the lower hand.
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ascended the pulpit and said: "Amin, amin, amin." Then he explained: "Jibril (peace be upon him) came to me and said: 'O Muhammad! Whoever finds one of his parents (alive) and then dies in such a state that he enters the Fire, may Allah distance him (from His mercy). Say: Amin.' So I said: Amin. Jibril said: 'O Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! Whoever reaches the month of Ramadan and is not forgiven, and is entered into the Fire, may Allah distance him (from His mercy). Say: Amin.' So I said: Amin. Then Jibril said: 'Whoever you are mentioned in his presence and he does not send blessings upon you, and then dies and enters the Fire, may Allah distance him (from His mercy)! Say: Amin.' So I said: Amin."
Al-Tabarani recorded it with several chains, one of which is hasan (good). This hadith has various routes, which are mentioned in the Book of Supplications, in the chapter on sending blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Sayyiduna Malik bin Amr al-Qushayri (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever frees a Muslim (slave), (the one freed) will be his ransom from the Fire. And whoever lives to see one of his parents and is still not forgiven, may Allah distance him (from His mercy)." In one narration the words are: "May He cast him far away."
Ahmad recorded it. In some of its routes the words are: "Any Muslim who takes an orphan of Muslim parents to share his food and drink until the child grows up, Paradise is certainly binding for him." Then the narrator mentioned the hadith as before, and its chain is hasan (good).
