Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said in his sermon: "Indeed, in this town (by which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) meant Madinah) it is not fitting that there be two qiblahs. So any Christian who becomes Muslim and then returns to Christianity, strike off his neck."

It is reported about Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent both of them to Yemen and ordered them both to teach the people the Qur'an. The narrator says: Once Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) came to visit Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him), and found with him a man bound in iron chains. Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O my brother! Were we sent to torment people? We were sent only to teach people the religion and to command them with what benefits them." Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "This man first became Muslim and then disbelieved." Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "By the One who sent Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) with the truth! I will not move until I burn him with fire." Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "We still have some remaining (matter) with him?" Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "By Allah, I will not leave." The narrator says: Then firewood was brought and set alight; he seized him by the shoulders and threw him into the fire.
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: In the "Sahih" there is a hadith reported from the two of them, other than this hadith.
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Qays bin Abi Hazim says: A man came to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: "I passed by one of the mosques of Banu Hanifah, and I heard them reciting something that Allah Almighty did not reveal (that is, they were reciting it as the Qur'an): 'By the women who grind the flour, the women who bake the bread, the women who knead the dough, and the women who make the morsels.'" The narrator says: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Ibn al-Nawwahah, the imam of those people, and had him killed. Since the rest of the people were many, he said: "Today I will not hand these people over to Satan. Send them to Syria, until Allah Almighty grants them repentance or the plague destroys them." After this the narrator mentioned the full hadith.
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Al-Qasim says: A man came to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) and told him: "O Abu Abd al-Rahman! There are some people here who recite the recitation of Musaylimah." Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) sent that man back. After as long a time had passed as Allah willed, that man came to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: "O Abu Abd al-Rahman! By the One by whose name I swear! I have just left those people in a house, and that mushaf is with them." So Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) gave an order to Qarazah bin Ka'b, and he set out with people accompanying him. Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Bring them!" When he brought them, he asked: "What is this? Is this happening after Islam has spread far and wide?" They said: "O Abu Abd al-Rahman! We seek forgiveness from Allah Almighty and repent to Him, and we bear witness that Musaylimah is the liar who fabricates lies against Allah and His Messenger." The narrator says: Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) made them repent and sent them to Syria. They were close to eighty men. Ibn al-Nawwahah refused to repent, so Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) ordered Qarazah bin Ka'b; he took him to the marketplace and struck off his neck. Then Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) ordered that his head be taken and thrown into his mother's lap. The narrator Abd al-Rahman bin Abdullah says: Later in Syria I met an old man from among them, and he said to me: "May Allah Almighty have mercy on your father (that is, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him). By Allah! Had he had us killed that day, we would all have entered Hell."
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain is broken (munqati') between al-Qasim and his grandfather, Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him).

Suwayd bin Ghafalah says: News reached Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that some people in Basrah had left Islam and apostatized. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) sent a message to those people, and for two weeks he kept sending them food. Then he invited them to Islam, but they did not accept. So Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) had a pit dug for them, then stood over it and said: "I will fill you with fat and flesh." Then those people were brought, their necks were struck off and they were thrown into the pit; then firewood was thrown over them and they were burned. Then Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Allah and His Messenger have spoken the truth." Suwayd bin Ghafalah says: When he turned back, I followed him and said: "I heard you saying: 'Allah and His Messenger have spoken the truth.'" He said: "Woe to you! There were ignorant people around me. When you hear me saying that the Messenger of Allah said something, then for me to fall from the sky is dearer to me than that I attribute to Allah and His Messenger something that he did not say."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains al-Hasan bin Ziyad al-Lu'lu'i, who is matruk (abandoned).

Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) says: A man named Nabhan apostatized three times. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah, give me power over Nabhan in such a way that there is a black rope around his neck." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned, and there was Nabhan coming in front of him; he had been seized and a black rope had been put around his neck. The people brought him to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took the sword in his blessed (right) hand and held the rope in his left hand in order to kill him. A man from the Ansar said: "O Messenger of Allah! It would be fitting if you kept him away from yourself." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) handed the sword to that man and said: "Go and strike off his neck." As he began to take him away, Nabhan started laughing and said: "Do you want to kill a man who says that there is no god but Allah and that Sayyiduna Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah?" So he was let go.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy), except that the case of Muhammad bin al-Marzuban, the teacher of al-Tabarani, is different: I have not seen him mentioned in Mizan al-I'tidal or in any other book.
