Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 10583

Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) says: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was about to send him to Yemen, he said to him: "Whoever leaves Islam and apostatizes, invite him (back); if he repents, accept his repentance, and if he does not repent, strike off his neck. And whatever woman leaves Islam and apostatizes, invite her (back); if she repents, accept her repentance, and if she refuses, keep asking her to repent."
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator who is not named; Makhul said: "It is from a son of Abu Talhah al-Ya'mari." The rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
