Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked about 'azl (withdrawal before ejaculation). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If the fluid from which a child is to be born were poured onto a rock, Allah Almighty would bring a child out of it (the narrator is unsure; perhaps the words are:) a child would come out of it. Whatever soul Allah Almighty is to create, He will certainly create it.

Sayyiduna Sirmah al-Udhri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went out to fight Banu Sulaym. We obtained noble Arab women (as captives), and we were also keen to sell them, and celibacy had become hard on us. So we decided to have relations with them and practise 'azl. One of us said: We should not do this while the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is among us; we should ask him first. So we asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whether you practise 'azl or not, any soul that Allah Almighty has decreed is to come into being until the Day of Resurrection will certainly come into being.
