Sayyiduna Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The first people to practise 'azl were some men from the Ansar. They came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: Some men from the Ansar practise 'azl. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) became alarmed, and he said: The soul that is to be created will certainly come into being, so I neither command it nor forbid it.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat and al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains Isa bin Sinan al-Hanafi, whom Ibn Hibban and others declared thiqah (trustworthy), while a group declared him da'if (weak).
