Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Each of you should try to protect himself from Hell, even if only by means of half a date."
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

In one narration the words are: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Aishah! Try to protect yourself from Hell, even if only by means of half a date, for it fulfils the same need for a hungry person as it does for one who is full."
Ahmad recorded all these narrations, and al-Bazzar recorded part of it. Its chain contains a narrator, Abu Hilal, concerning whom there is some criticism; otherwise he is thiqah (trustworthy).

Abu Ya'la and al-Bazzar recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Muhammad bin Isma'il al-Wasawisi, and he is extremely weak (da'if jiddan).

Let no one who asks return from you (empty-handed), even if he takes away only a burnt hoof."
Al-Bazzar recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Abdullah bin Shabib, and he is da'if (weak).

Sayyiduna Abu Juhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: Some people from the tribe of Qays came suddenly upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), wearing (striped woollen) garments and with swords hanging from their shoulders. Their condition grieved the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He prayed, then went into his house. Then he came out and led the prayer, then sat down in his place. He ordered charity and encouraged it, and said: "Let a man give charity from his dinar, let another give from his dirham, let another give a sa' of his wheat, and let another give a sa' of his dates." A man from the Ansar came with a bag of gold in his hand, and then people followed one after another, until the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw two heaps of clothes and food. The narrator says: I saw the face of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) shining as though it had been anointed with oil.
Al-Bazzar recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Abu Isra'il al-Mula'i; he has been criticised, but he has also been declared trustworthy.

Sayyiduna Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: Some Bedouins came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at midday, with swords hanging from their shoulders and wearing coarse garments. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged the people (to give) for them, and said: "Let the one who has dinars give charity from his dinars, the one who has dirhams from his dirhams, the one who has wheat from his wheat, the one who has barley from his barley, and the one who has dates from his dates, before a day comes upon him when he will look in front of him and see nothing but the Fire, he will look to his right and see nothing but the Fire, he will look to his left and see nothing but the Fire, and he will look behind him and see nothing but the Fire."
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Part of it is transmitted in the Sahih. Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains a narrator, al-Hasan bin Abi Ja'far al-Jufri, and he is da'if (weak).
