Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) reports this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Try to protect yourselves from Hell, even if by means of half a date."
Abu Ya'la and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Abu Bahr al-Bakrawi; there is criticism concerning him, but he has been declared trustworthy.
