Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) descended and said: "Mu'awiyah bin Mu'awiyah al-Laythi has died. Would you like to offer the funeral prayer for him?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "Yes." The narrator says: Then he struck the ground with his wing, and every tree and every hillock on the way moved aside. The narrator says: He raised the deceased's bier so that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) could see it, and he said the takbir over him. Behind him were two rows of angels, and in each row were seventy thousand angels. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "O Jibril, why has he been granted this rank with Allah Almighty?" He replied: "Because of his love for Surah al-Ikhlas, and because of his reciting it (Surah al-Ikhlas) while going and coming, standing and sitting, in every state."

Tabarani's chain contains a narrator, Mahbub bin Hilal. Imam Dhahabi says: He is not known, and the hadith he narrates is munkar (denounced).

Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was at Tabuk, and said: "O Muhammad! Attend the funeral of Mu'awiyah bin Mu'awiyah al-Muzani." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went out. Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) descended with seventy thousand angels. He placed his right wing on the mountains and they bowed down, and he placed his left wing on the lands and they bowed down, until the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) could see Makkah and Madinah. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) offered the funeral prayer for that man, and Sayyiduna Jibril and the angels offered it too. When they had finished, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Jibril! Why has Mu'awiyah bin Mu'awiyah al-Muzani been granted this rank?" He replied: "(He was granted this rank because of reciting) Surah al-Ikhlas standing, sitting, riding and walking (in every state)."
Imam Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains a narrator, Nuh bin Umar. Ibn Hibban says: It is said that he stole this hadith. (Allamah Haythami says:) I say: This does not make the hadith weak. Its chain contains a narrator, Baqiyyah, and he is a mudallis (one who conceals defects in the chain). There is no other defect ('illah) in this narration besides this.
