Majma al-Zawaid 4207 — The funeral prayer in absentia
وَعَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ بْنِ أَسِيدٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - بَلَغَهُ مَوْتُ النَّجَاشِيِّ فَقَالَ لِأَصْحَابِهِ : " إِنَّ أَخَاكُمُ النَّجَّاشِيَّ قَدْ مَاتَ ، فَمَنْ أَرَادَ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ عَلَيْهِ فَلْيُصَلِّ عَلَيْهِ " . فَتَوَجَّهَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - نَحْوَ الْحَبَشَةِ فَكَبَّرَ عَلَيْهِ أَرْبَعًا .
قُلْتُ : رَوَاهُ ابْنُ مَاجَهْ خَلَا التَّكْبِيرَ .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ ، وَإِسْنَادُهُ حَسَنٌ .
قُلْتُ : رَوَاهُ ابْنُ مَاجَهْ خَلَا التَّكْبِيرَ .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ ، وَإِسْنَادُهُ حَسَنٌ .
Sayyiduna Hudhayfah bin Asid (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) received news of the death of the Negus (al-Najashi), he said to his Companions: "Your brother the Negus has passed away. Whoever wishes to offer the funeral prayer for him, let him offer it." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned towards Abyssinia and said the takbir over him four times. (Allamah Haythami says:) I say:
Imam Ibn Majah also recorded it, but he did not mention saying the takbir.
Imam Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its chain is hasan (good).
