عَنْ أَنَسٍ أَنَّ أَسْوَدَ كَانَ يُنَظِّفُ الْمَسْجِدَ فَمَاتَ فَدُفِنَ لَيْلًا ، فَأَتَى النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَأُخْبِرَ فَقَالَ : " انْطَلِقُوا إِلَى قَبْرِهِ " ، فَانْطَلَقُوا فَقَالَ : " إِنَّ هَذِهِ الْقُبُورَ مُمْتَلِئَةٌ عَلَى أَهْلِهَا ظُلْمَةً ، وَإِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ يُنَوِّرُهَا بِصَلَاتِي عَلَيْهَا " ، فَأَتَى الْقَبْرَ فَصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ ، وَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنْ أَخِي مَاتَ وَلَمْ تُصَلِّ عَلَيْهِ ، قَالَ : " فَأَيْنَ قَبْرُهُ ؟ " فَأَخْبَرَهُ ، فَانْطَلَقَ النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - مَعَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ فَصَلَّى .
قُلْتُ : فِي الصَّحِيحِ طَرَفٌ مِنْهُ .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ ، وَرِجَالُهُ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .

Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A black man used to clean the mosque. He died and was buried at night. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was informed of this, he said: "Go to his grave." They went, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "These graves are filled with darkness for their occupants, and through my offering the funeral prayer over them, Allah Almighty fills them with light." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to the grave and offered the funeral prayer for him. A man from the Ansar said: "O Messenger of Allah! My brother died, but you did not offer the funeral prayer for him." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Where is his grave?" He told him, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went with that Ansari and offered the funeral prayer for him too.

وَعَنْ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - صَلَّى عَلَى قَبْرٍ بَعْدَمَا دُفِنَ .

Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) offered the funeral prayer at a grave after the deceased had been buried.

وَعَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَعُودُ فُقَرَاءَ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ ، وَيَشْهَدُ جَنَائِزَهُمْ إِذَا مَاتُوا ، فَتُوُفِّيَتِ امْرَأَةٌ مَنْ أَهْلِ الْعَوَالِي ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا حَضَرَتْ فَآذِنُونِي " ، فَأَتَوْهُ لِيُؤْذِنُوهُ ، فَوَجَدُوهُ نَائِمًا وَقَدْ ذَهَبَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ ، فَكَرِهُوا أَنْ يُوقِظُوهُ ، وَتَخَوَّفُوا عَلَيْهِ ظُلْمَةَ اللَّيْلِ وَهَوَامَّ الْأَرْضِ ، فَذَهَبُوا بِهَا ، فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحَ سَأَلَ عَنْهَا قَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَتَيْنَاكَ لِنُؤْذِنَكَ فَوَجَدْنَاكَ نَائِمًا ، فَكَرِهْنَا أَنْ نُوقِظَكَ ، وَتَخَوَّفْنَا عَلَيْكَ ظُلْمَةَ اللَّيْلِ وَهَوَامَّ الْأَرْضِ ، فَمَشَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - إِلَى قَبْرِهَا فَصَلَّى عَلَيْهَا وَكَبَّرَ أَرْبَعًا .

Sayyiduna Sahl bin Hunayf (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to visit the poor people of Madinah when they were sick, and when they died he would attend their funerals. A woman from the people of the outlying area (al-Awali) passed away. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When she is ready (that is, when the shrouding of the deceased is complete), inform me about her." They came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to inform him, but they found the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asleep, and part of the night had passed. The people did not think it proper to wake the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and they were also concerned about the darkness of the night and the creeping creatures of the earth. So they took the woman's body away. The next day the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked about the woman, and the people said: "O Messenger of Allah! We came to you to inform you, but we found you asleep, and we did not like to wake you. We were also concerned for you about the darkness of the night and the creeping creatures of the earth." The narrator says: So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) walked to the woman's grave, offered the funeral prayer for her, and said four takbirs.

وَعَنْ حُصَيْنِ بْنِ وَحْوَحٍ أَنَّ طَلْحَةَ بْنَ الْبَرَاءِ ، لَمَّا لَقِيَ النَّبِيَّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، مُرْنِي بِأَمْرِكَ وَلَا أَعْصِي لَكَ أَمْرًا ، قَالَ : فَعَجِبَ لِذَلِكَ النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - وَهُوَ غُلَامٌ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ عِنْدَ ذَلِكَ : " اذْهَبْ فَاقْتُلْ أَبَاكَ " ، قَالَ : فَذَهَبَ مُوَلِّيًا يَفْعَلُ ، فَدَعَاهُ فَقَالَ : " أَقْبِلْ ; فَإِنِّي لَمْ أُبْعَثْ بِقَطِيعَةِ الرَّحِمِ " ، فَمَرِضَ طَلْحَةُ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ ، فَأَتَاهُ النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَعُودُهُ فِي الشِّتَاءِ فِي بَرْدٍ وَغَيْمٍ ، فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ قَالَ لِأَهْلِهِ : " إِنِّي لَا أَرَى طَلْحَةَ إِلَّا حَدَثَ فِيهِ الْمَوْتُ ، فَآذِنُونِي بِهِ حَتَّى أَشْهَدَهُ وَأُصَلِّيَ عَلَيْهِ ، وَعَجِّلُوا " ، فَلَمْ يَبْلُغِ النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - بَنِي سَالِمِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ حَتَّى تُوُفِّيَ ، وَجَنَّ عَلَيْهِ اللَّيْلُ ، فَكَانَ مِمَّا قَالَ طَلْحَةُ : ادْفِنُونِي وَأَلْحِقُونِي بِرَبِّي عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ، وَلَا تَدْعُوا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَإِنِّي أَخَافُ الْيَهُودَ أَنْ تَصَّافَّ فِي سُنَّتِي ، وَأُخْبِرَ النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - حِينَ أَصْبَحَ ، فَجَاءَ حَتَّى وَقَفَ عَلَى قَبْرِهِ وَصَفَّ النَّاسَ مَعَهُ [ ثُمَّ رَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ ] فَقَالَ : " اللَّهُمَّ الْقَ طَلْحَةَ تَضْحَكُ إِلَيْهِ وَيَضْحَكُ إِلَيْكَ " .
قُلْتُ : عَزَا صَاحِبُ الْأَطْرَافِ بَعْضَ هَذَا إِلَى أَبِي دَاوُدَ وَلَمْ أَرَهُ .

قُلْتُ : عَزَا صَاحِبُ الْأَطْرَافِ بَعْضَ هَذَا إِلَى أَبِي دَاوُدَ وَلَمْ أَرَهُ .

Husayn bin Wahwah narrates: When Sayyiduna Talhah bin al-Bara' (may Allah be pleased with him) met the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: "O Messenger of Allah! Give me any command, and I will not disobey your command." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was pleased by this, because he was a boy. At that time the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go and kill your father." He turned away to do it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called him back and said: "Come back! I have not been sent to sever the ties of kinship." After that, this young man named Talhah fell ill. In winter, on a cold and cloudy day, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to visit him. When he was about to leave, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to his family: "I see that Talhah is close to death. When he dies, inform me about it so that I may attend his funeral and lead his funeral prayer, and be quick." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had not yet reached the quarter of Banu Salim bin Awf when he passed away. Night had fallen. Talhah said: "Bury me and entrust me to my Lord. Do not call the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), for I fear that the Jews may cause him (peace and blessings be upon him) some harm." The next day the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was informed of this, so he came until he stood at his grave. The people formed a row behind him, then he raised both his hands and made this supplication: "O Allah! Meet Talhah in such a state that he is laughing at seeing You and You are laughing at seeing him." (Allamah Haythami says:) I say: The author of al-Atraf attributed part of this narration to Imam Abu Dawud, but I have not seen
this narration in that book.
