Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that he saw a dream in which he was writing Surah Sad. When he reached the place of its prostration, he saw that the inkpot, the pen and everything present there had gone into prostration. He said: I related this dream to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and after that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) always performed the prostration of recitation in this surah.
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I saw in a dream as though I was beneath a tree, and the tree was reciting Surah Sad. When it reached the place of prostration, it went into prostration and said in its prostration: "O Allah, forgive me by it; O Allah, remove my sins from me by it, grant me gratitude by it, and accept it from me just as You accepted from Your servant Dawud his prostration." The narrator said: The next day I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and told him about this. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abu Sa'id, did you prostrate?" I said: "No." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then you were more entitled to prostrate than the tree." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited Surah Sad, and when he reached the place of prostration, he said during his prostration the same words that the tree had said in its prostration.
Abu Ya'la recorded it, and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; however, he recorded these words: The tree said: "O Allah, record a reward for me because of this prostration." Apart from this, the remaining wording is as before. Its chain contains a narrator, al-Yaman bin Nasr; al-Dhahabi said: He is majhul (unknown).
