Sayyiduna Makhramah bin Nawfal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made Islam public, all the people of Makkah accepted Islam. This was before the prayer was made obligatory. So much so that whenever the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited a verse of prostration, everyone would prostrate, until, because of the crowding, some of them were unable to prostrate. Then the leaders of Quraysh, al-Walid bin al-Mughirah, Abu Jahl bin Hisham and others, who at that time were at their lands in Ta'if, came and said: Are you abandoning the religion of your forefathers? So those people turned to disbelief.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator, Ibn Lahi'ah, and there is criticism about him.
