Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I prayed behind the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), and they raised their hands only at the beginning of the prayer. On one occasion he reported these words: They did not raise their hands after the first takbir. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Another hadith besides this one is reported from him.
Abu Ya'la recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Muhammad bin Jabir al-Hanafi al-Yamami, whose hadith became confused for him; he would be prompted and would accept the prompting.

Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed, he would raise both hands up to his ears, and when he had said the takbir, he would let them go. Sometimes I saw him place his right hand on his left hand. When he finished Surah al-Fatihah, he would remain silent for a while, then raise both hands up to his ears and go into bowing while saying the takbir. We would not go into bowing until we saw him in bowing. Then he would stand straight after bowing until every bone returned to its place, then he would raise both hands up to his ears. After this the narrator mentioned the complete hadith; this report will come later in the chapter on the manner of the prayer, if Allah wills.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, al-Khasib bin Jahdar, who is a kadhdhab (liar).

Sayyiduna Wa'il bin Hujr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "O Wa'il bin Hujr, when you pray, keep your hands level with your ears, and a woman will raise her hands level with her chest." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: A hadith about raising the hands other than this one is reported from this Companion in the Sahih and other books.
Al-Tabarani recorded it within a long hadith about the virtues of Sayyiduna Wa'il (may Allah be pleased with him), reported through Maymunah bint Hujr, who narrated it from her paternal aunt Umm Yahya bint Abd al-Jabbar. I do not know this woman. The remaining narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy).
