بَابٌ ثَانٍ مِنْهُ فِي اتِّبَاعِ الْكِتَابِ وَالسُّنَّةِ وَمَعْرِفَةِ الْحَلَالِ مِنَ الْحَرَامِ .

عَنْ أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " مَا أَحَلَّ اللَّهُ فِي كِتَابِهِ فَهُوَ حَلَالٌ ، وَمَا حَرَّمَ فَهُوَ حَرَامٌ ، وَمَا سَكَتَ عَنْهُ فَهُوَ عَفْوٌ ، فَاقْبَلُوا مِنَ اللَّهِ عَافِيَتَهُ ; فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ لَمْ يَكُنْ لِيَنْسَى شَيْئًا " ثُمَّ تَلَا " ( وَمَا كَانَ رَبُّكَ نَسِيًّا ) " .
رَوَاهُ الْبَزَّارُ وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ ، وَإِسْنَادُهُ حَسَنٌ ، وَرِجَالُهُ مُوَثَّقُونَ .

Sayyiduna Abu al-Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whatever Allah Almighty has made lawful in His Book is lawful, whatever He has made unlawful is unlawful, and whatever He has remained silent about is a pardon. So accept from Allah Almighty the ease He has granted, for Allah Almighty does not forget anything." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: "And your Lord is not forgetful."
Al-Bazzar and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir recorded it; its chain is hasan (good), and its narrators have been declared trustworthy.

Sayyiduna Abu al-Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Indeed, Allah Almighty has made certain things obligatory, so do not neglect them; He has set certain limits, so do not transgress them; and He has remained silent about many things, not out of forgetfulness, so you are not bound by them. He has done this as a mercy for you, so accept it!"
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat and al-Mu'jam al-Saghir; its chain contains Asram bin Hawshab, who is matruk (abandoned) and has been accused of fabricating hadith.

وَعَنْ أَبِي ثَعْلَبَةَ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " إِنَّ اللَّهَ فَرَضَ فَرَائِضَ فَلَا تُضَيِّعُوهَا ، وَنَهَى عَنْ أَشْيَاءَ فَلَا تَنْتَهِكُوهَا ، وَحَدَّ حُدُودًا فَلَا تَعْتَدُوهَا ، وَغَفَلَ عَنْ أَشْيَاءَ مِنْ غَيْرِ نِسْيَانٍ فَلَا تَبْحَثُوا عَنْهَا " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ ، وَهُوَ هَكَذَا فِي هَذِهِ الرِّوَايَةِ ، وَكَأَنَّ بَعْضَ الرُّوَاةِ ظَنَّ أَنَّ هَذَا مَعْنًى وَسَكَتَ ، فَرَوَاهَا كَذَلِكَ - وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ - وَرِجَالُهُ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ ، وَهُوَ هَكَذَا فِي هَذِهِ الرِّوَايَةِ ، وَكَأَنَّ بَعْضَ الرُّوَاةِ ظَنَّ أَنَّ هَذَا مَعْنًى وَسَكَتَ ، فَرَوَاهَا كَذَلِكَ - وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ - وَرِجَالُهُ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .
Sayyiduna Abu Tha'labah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, Allah Almighty has laid down certain obligations, so do not neglect them; He has forbidden certain things, so do not violate them; He has set certain limits, so do not transgress them; and He has (shown) disregard for certain things, not out of forgetfulness, so do not dispute (or inquire) about them!"
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and in this narration it is like this (i.e., with the wording of disregard). It seems that one of the narrators thought that this is what "He remained silent" means, so he narrated the word in this way (i.e., as a narration by meaning), and Allah knows best. Its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

وَعَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " لَا تُمْسِكُوا عَنِّي شَيْئًا ; فَإِنِّي لَا أُحِلُّ إِلَّا مَا أَحَلَّ اللَّهُ فِي كِتَابِهِ ، وَلَا أُحَرِّمُ إِلَّا مَا حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ فِي كِتَابِهِ " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ ، وَقَالَ : لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ إِلَّا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَاصِمٍ ، تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ صَالِحُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الزَّعْفَرَانِيُّ . قُلْتُ : وَلَمْ أَرَ مَنْ تَرْجَمَهُمَا .

Sayyidah Aishah Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not hold on to anything on my account! Indeed, I make lawful only what Allah Almighty has made lawful in His Book, and I make unlawful only what Allah Almighty has made unlawful in His Book."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat and said: No one narrated it from Yahya bin Sa'id except Ali bin Asim, and Salih bin al-Hasan bin Muhammad al-Za'farani is alone in narrating it. (Al-Haythami says:) I have not seen anyone who has written the biographies of these two.

وَعَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ : خَطَبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَقَالَ : " إِنَّ اللَّهَ قَدْ أَعْطَى كُلَّ ذِي حَقٍّ حَقَّهُ ، أَلَا إِنَّ اللَّهَ قَدْ فَرَضَ فَرَائِضَ ، وَسَنَّ سُنَنًا ، وَحَدَّ حُدُودًا ، وَأَحَلَّ حَلَالًا ، وَحَرَّمَ حَرَامًا ، وَشَرَعَ الدِّينَ فَجَعَلَهُ سَهْلًا سَمْحًا وَاسِعًا وَلَمْ يَجْعَلْهُ ضَيِّقًا ، أَلَا إِنَّهُ لَا إِيمَانَ لِمَنْ لَا أَمَانَةَ لَهُ ، وَلَا دِينَ لِمَنْ لَا عَهْدَ لَهُ ، وَمَنْ نَكَثَ ذِمَّةَ اللَّهِ طَلَبَهُ ، وَمَنْ نَكَثَ ذِمَّتِي خَاصَمْتُهُ ، وَمَنْ خَاصَمْتُهُ فَلَجْتُ عَلَيْهِ ، وَمَنْ نَكَثَ ذِمَّتِي لَمْ يَنَلْ شَفَاعَتِي ، وَلَمْ يَرِدْ عَلَى الْحَوْضِ ، أَلَا إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَمْ يُرَخِّصْ فِي الْقَتْلِ إِلَّا ثَلَاثَةً : مُرْتَدٌّ بَعْدَ إِيمَانٍ ، أَوْ زَانٍ بَعْدَ إِحْصَانٍ ، أَوْ قَاتِلُ نَفْسٍ فَيُقْتَلُ بِقَتْلِهِ ، أَلَا هَلْ بَلَّغْتُ ؟ " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ ، وَفِيهِ حُسَيْنُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ الْمُلَقَّبُ بِحَنَشٍ ، وَهُوَ مَتْرُوكُ الْحَدِيثِ .

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a sermon and said: "Indeed, Allah Almighty has given everyone who has a right his right. Beware! Indeed, Allah Almighty has laid down certain obligations, established certain practices, set certain limits, made certain things lawful and made certain things unlawful. He has legislated the religion and made it easy, gentle and broad (i.e., accommodating); He has not made it narrow. Beware! There is no faith for one who has no trustworthiness, and no religion for one who has no commitment to his covenant. Whoever violates the protection granted by Allah Almighty, Allah Almighty will call him to account; and whoever violates the protection granted by me, I will be his opponent, and whoever I am the opponent of, I will overcome him. Whoever violates the protection granted by me will not attain my intercession and will not come to the Pond (al-Kawthar). Beware! Indeed, Allah Almighty has not permitted killing anyone except in the case of three: apostasy after faith, a person who commits adultery despite being married (muhsan), and a person who kills someone, who is killed in retaliation for that killing. Beware! Have I conveyed (the message)?"

وَعَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " السُّنَّةُ سُنَّتَانِ : سُنَّةٌ فِي فَرِيضَةٍ ، وَسُنَّةٌ فِي غَيْرِ فَرِيضَةٍ ، السُّنَّةُ الَّتِي فِي الْفَرِيضَةِ أَصْلُهَا فِي كِتَابِ اللَّهِ ، أَخْذُهَا هُدًى ، وَتَرْكُهَا ضَلَالَةٌ ، وَالسُّنَّةُ الَّتِي لَيْسَ أَصْلُهَا فِي كِتَابِ اللَّهِ الْأَخْذُ بِهَا فَضِيلَةٌ ، وَتَرْكُهَا لَيْسَ بِخَطِيئَةٍ " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ ، وَقَالَ : لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ إِلَّا عِيسَى بْنُ وَاقَدٍ ، تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الرُّومِيِّ . وَلَمْ أَرَ مَنْ تَرْجَمَهُ .

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The Sunnah is of two kinds: a Sunnah connected to an obligation, and a Sunnah connected to other than an obligation. The Sunnah connected to an obligation has its basis in the Book of Allah; adopting it is guidance and abandoning it is misguidance. The Sunnah whose basis is not in the Book of Allah, adopting it is a virtue (i.e., recommended), and abandoning it is not a sin."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat and said: No one narrated it from Abu Salamah except Isa bin Waqid, and the narrator Abdullah bin al-Rumi is alone in narrating it. I have not seen anyone who has written his biography.

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever holds firmly to my Sunnah at the time of the corruption of my Ummah will have the reward of a martyr."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Knowledge is of three kinds: a speaking Book, an established Sunnah, and saying: I do not know.

وَعَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ بْنِ الْيَمَانِ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَ : " سَيَأْتِي عَلَيْكُمْ زَمَانٌ لَا يَكُونُ فِيهِ شَيْءٌ أَعَزَّ مِنْ ثَلَاثٍ : دِرْهَمٌ حَلَالٌ ، أَوْ أَخٌ يُسْتَأْنَسُ بِهِ ، أَوْ سُنَّةٌ يُعْمَلُ بِهَا " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ ، وَفِيهِ رَوْحُ بْنُ صَلَاحٍ ، ضَعَّفَهُ ابْنُ عَدِيٍّ ، وَقَالَ الْحَاكِمُ : ثِقَةٌ مَأْمُونٌ . وَذَكَرَهُ ابْنُ حِبَّانَ فِي الثِّقَاتِ ، وَبَقِيَّةُ رِجَالِهِ مُوَثَّقُونَ .

Sayyiduna Hudhayfah bin al-Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A time will soon come upon you in which nothing will be more precious than three things: a lawful dirham, a brother with whom one finds companionship, and a Sunnah that is acted upon."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Rawh bin Salah, whom Ibn Adi declared da'if (weak), while al-Hakim said: He is thiqah ma'mun (trustworthy and reliable). وَعَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ قَالَ : نَزَلَ الْقُرْآنُ وَسَنَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - السُّنَنَ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " اتَّبِعُونَا ، فَوَاللَّهِ إِنْ لَمْ تَفْعَلُوا تَضِلُّوا " .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ ، وَفِيهِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ زَيْدِ بْنِ جُدْعَانَ ، وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ .

Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Qur'an was revealed, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) established certain Sunnahs. Then he said: Follow us! By Allah, if you do not do so, you will go astray.

وَعَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ : اقْتِصَادٌ فِي سُنَّةٍ خَيْرٌ مِنِ اجْتِهَادٍ فِي بِدْعَةٍ .

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Moderation in the Sunnah is better than exhaustive effort in an innovation (bid'ah).
