حَدَّثَنَا أبو العباس محمد بن يعقوب، حَدَّثَنَا الحسن بن علي بن عفّان، حَدَّثَنَا يحيى بن آدم، حَدَّثَنَا إسرائيل، عن أبي إسحاق، عن أبي الأحوَص وأبي عُبيدة، عن عبد الله قال: كانتِ الأنبياءُ يَستحبّون (2) أن يَلبَسوا الصوفَ ويَحتلِبوا الغنم، ويَركَبوا الحُمُر (3).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophets (peace be upon them) liked to wear wool, to milk goats, and to ride donkeys.

حَدَّثَنَا أحمد بن كامل القاضي، حَدَّثَنَا أبو قِلَابة، حَدَّثَنَا يحيى بن حمّاد، حَدَّثَنَا أبو عَوَانة، عن قَتَادة عن أبي بُرْدة، عن أبي موسى (1)، قال: لقد رأيتُنا معَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وأصابَتْنا السماء، فكأنَّ برِيحِنا ريحَ الضَّأْن (2).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him); he said: I have seen us with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when rain fell upon us (and our woollen clothes got wet), and it seemed as though our smell was the smell of sheep.

قال الحاكم ﵀: وفيما كَتَب إليَّ محمدُ بن عمرو الرَّزَّاز بخطِّ يده يذكر أنَّ سَعْدان (3) بن نصر المُخرِّمي حدَّثهم، حَدَّثَنَا أبو معاوية، حَدَّثَنَا أبو سَلَمة محمد بن مَيْسرة، عن قَتْادة، عن أبي بُردة، عن أبي موسى قال: لقد (1) رأيتُنا معَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ حَسِبتَ أنَّ ريحَنا ريحُ الضَّأْن، إنما (2) لباسُنا الصُّوف، وطعامُنا الأسودانِ: الماءُ والتمرُ (3).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him); he said: I have seen us with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); you would have thought that our smell was the smell of sheep. Our clothing was nothing but wool, and our food was the two black things: water and dates.
حدثني محمد بن صالح بن هانئ، حَدَّثَنَا يحيى بن محمد بن يحيى، حَدَّثَنَا مُسدَّد، حَدَّثَنَا يحيى بن زكريا بن أبي زائدة، أخبرني أبي، عن مصعب بن شَيْبة، عن صفيّة بنت شَيْبة، عن عائشة قالت: خرجَ رسولُ الله ﷺ ذَاتَ غَدَاة وعليه مِرْطٌ مُرحَّل من شَعرٍ أسودَ (4).

It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went out one morning wearing a patterned wrap (mirt) made of black hair.

أخبرنا علي بن عبد الله الحَكِيمي ببغداد، حَدَّثَنَا العباس بن محمد بن حاتم (2) الدُّوري، حَدَّثَنَا الحسن بن بِشر، حَدَّثَنَا إسحاق بن سعيد بن عمرو بن سعيد القُرشي، عن أبيه، عن أُمِّ خالد بنتِ خالد قالت: أُتي رسولُ الله ﷺ بثياب فيها خَمِيصة، فقال لأصحابه: "مَن ترونَ أحقُّ بهذه الخَمِيصة؟ " فسكتوا، فدعا أُمَّ خالد، فأَلبَسَها إياها، ثم قال: "أَبْلِي يا بُنَيَّةُ وأَخْلِقي، وأَبْلِي وأَخْلِقي، أَبْلِي وأَخْلِقي"، قال: وكان فيها عَلَمٌ أحمر، فأقبلَ يقول: "يا أمَّ خالد، سَنَا" (3). والسَّنَا بالحبشية: الحَسَن.

It is narrated from Sayyidah Umm Khalid bint Khalid (may Allah be pleased with her) that some garments were brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), among which was a black sheet (khamisah). He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked his Companions: "Who do you think is most deserving of this sheet?" They all remained silent. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) called Umm Khalid and himself dressed her in that sheet, then said: "O my little daughter, wear it until it becomes old and worn out (that is, may you live long)." He (peace and blessings be upon him) repeated this three times. That sheet had red markings on it, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) began to say: "O Umm Khalid, sana!" In the Abyssinian language, 'sana' means beautiful.

أخبرنا أبو بكر بن قُريش، حَدَّثَنَا الحسن بن سفيان، حَدَّثَنَا أبو الربيع الزَّهْراني، حَدَّثَنَا عبد الصمد بن عبد الوارث، حَدَّثَنَا همَّام، عن قَتَادة، عن مُطرِّف، عن عائشة: أنها صَنعَتْ (1) لرسول الله ﷺ جُبَّةً من صوفٍ سوداءَ، فلَبِسَها، فلما عَرِقَ وَجَدَ ريحَ الصُّوف فخَلَعها، وكان يُعجِبُه الرِّيحُ الطَّيِّب (2).

It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she made a black woollen cloak (jubbah) for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) wore it, but when he (peace and blessings be upon him) sweated and noticed the smell of the wool, he (peace and blessings be upon him) took it off, for he (peace and blessings be upon him) loved a pure, pleasant fragrance.
