Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 7576

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him); he said: I have seen us with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); you would have thought that our smell was the smell of sheep. Our clothing was nothing but wool, and our food was the two black things: water and dates.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: (3) The manuscripts have "Sa'd"; we have established it according to the usual form from "Ithaf al-Maharah" (10/ 61), and several of those who wrote his biography also named him thus. Al-Khatib al-Baghdadi, alone, in "Tarikh Baghdad" (10/ 283) made "Sa'dan" a nickname and named him "Sa'id", while Ibn Hajar in "Nuzhat al-Albab" (1/ 366) stated firmly that "Sa'dan" is his name, not his nickname.

Note / Clarification: (1) This is how it is in the manuscripts, while the source works of the takhrij have "law", and that seems correct.

Note / Clarification: (2) Manuscript (Z) has "mimma".

Grading: (3) Its chain is da'if (weak).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Muhammad bin Maysarah is a weak (layyin) narrator, but he has been corroborated in the previous narration.
Reference / Source: It was recorded by al-Mahamili in "al-Amali" (56) and Abu Nu'aym in "Tarikh Asbahan" (1/ 162) through the route of Ali bin al-Haytham, from Abu Mu'awiyah, with this chain.
