It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went out one morning wearing a patterned wrap (mirt) made of black hair.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it. Imam al-Hakim says: The evidence that this wrap (mirt) was not the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)'s own (but rather belonged to Sayyidah Aishah) is:

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (4) The hadith is sahih. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Mus'ab bin Shaybah, although weak (layyin) in hadith, has a sahih route from the lady A'ishah; for this reason Imam Muslim counted it among his sound hadiths, and likewise al-Tirmidhi and Abu Muhammad al-Baghawi graded it sahih. Reference / Source: It was recorded by Ahmad (42/ 25295), Muslim (2081), Abu Dawud (4032) and al-Tirmidhi (2813) through various routes from Yahya bin Zakariyya, with this chain. Imam al-Tirmidhi said: This hadith is hasan gharib sahih. Note / Clarification: This hadith has already appeared under number (4758) together with the story of placing Ali, his wife Fatimah and their two sons al-Hasan and al-Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them) under that cloak (mirt).
