حدثني محمد بن صالح بن هانئ حدثنا محمد بن إسماعيل بن مِهْران، حدثنا عمرو بن عثمان الحمصي، حدثنا الوليد بن مسلم، عن عبد الله بن العلاء بن زَيْر، أنه سمع مسلم بن مِشْكَم أبا عُبيد الله يقول: حدثنا أبو ثَعلَبة الخُشَني، قال: كان الناسُ إذا نزلوا منزلًا تفرَّقوا في الشِّعاب والأودية، فقال رسول الله ﷺ: "إنَّ تفرُّقَكم في هذه الشِّعاب والأودية إنما ذلكمُ من الشيطان"، فلم يَنزِلُوا بعد ذلك منزلًا إلَّا انضمَّ بعضهم إلى بعض، حتى يقال: لو بُسِط عليهم ثوبٌ لَعَمَّهم (1) صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه. It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Tha'labah al-Khushani (may Allah be pleased with him) that whenever the Companions camped at a place, they would scatter among the mountain passes and valleys. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Your scattering like this in these mountain passes and valleys is only from Satan." After that, whenever they camped anywhere, they kept so close to one another that it would be said: if a single cloth were spread over them, it would cover them all.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to remain at the very rear (of the army during a journey) so that he could urge on the weak, seat them behind him on his mount, and supplicate for them.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but he did not record it.

أخبرني أبو بكر محمد بن حاتم العَدْل بَمْرو، حدثنا محمد بن غالب بن حَرْب، حدثنا أبو همَّام محمد بن مُحبَّب (1)، حدثنا سفيان بن سعيد، عن أبي إسحاق، عن حارثة بن مُضرِّب، عن فُرات بن حيّان: [أنَّ رسول الله ﷺ أمر بقتلِه، وكان عَينًا لأبي سفيان، وحَليفًا لرجلٍ من الأنصار، فقال: إني مُسلم، فقال رسول الله ﷺ] (2): "إن منكم رجالًا نَكِلهم إلى إيمانهم، منهم فُرات بن حيّان" (3). هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين، ولم يُخرجاه. It is narrated from Sayyiduna Furat bin Hayyan (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had (at first) ordered that he be killed, because he was a spy for Abu Sufyan and an ally of a man from the Ansar. He said: "I am a Muslim." So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Among you are some men whom we entrust to their faith (that is, we accept their outward claim), and Furat bin Hayyan is one of them."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

It is narrated from Qays bin Ubad that the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) disliked (making noise and) raising the voice at the time of fighting.

أخبرَناه أبو الوليد الفقيه، حدثنا أحمد بن الحسن بن عبد الجبار، حدثنا عبيد الله بن عمر القَواريري، حدثنا عبد الرحمن بن مَهدي، عن همّام حدثني مَطَر، عن قَتَادة، عن أبي بُرْدة، عن أبيه: أنَّ رسول الله ﷺ كان يَكْرَه الصوتَ عند القِتال (1). إسناد صحيح على شرط الشيخين ولم يُخرجاه، وحديث هشام الدَّستُوائي شاهدُه، وهو أَولى بالمحفوظ. It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) disliked raising the voice at the time of fighting.
This chain is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it; and the hadith of Hisham al-Dastuwa'i is a supporting narration (shahid) for it, and it is the more preserved.

حدثني علي بن عيسى، حدثنا مُسدَّد بن قَطَن، حدثنا عثمان بن أبي شَيْبة، حدثنا وكيع عن إسرائيل، عن أبي إسحاق، عن البراء، قال: لما لقي النبيُّ ﷺ المشركين يوم حُنين نزلَ عن بغلتِه فتَرجَّل (2). صحيح على شرط الشيخين، ولم يُخرجاه (1)، ولم يصحَّ أنه ﷺ ترجَّل وحارَبَ راجلًا إلَّا من هذا الوجه. It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Bara' bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) faced the polytheists on the day of the Battle of Hunayn, he (peace and blessings be upon him) dismounted from his mule and went (onto the field) on foot.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it. It is established only through this route that he (peace and blessings be upon him) dismounted from his mount and fought on foot.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Nu'man bin Muqarrin (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I was present with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) (in the expeditions). It was his (peace and blessings be upon him) practice that if he did not begin fighting in the early part of the day, he would delay the fighting until the sun had passed its zenith and the winds began to blow.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but he did not record it.

أخبرنا الشيخ أبو بكر بن إسحاق الفقيه وعلي بن حَمْشَاذَ العَدْل، قالا: أخبرنا علي بن عبد العزيز البَغَوي، حدثنا حجاج بن منهال، حدثنا حماد بن سَلَمة، حدثنا ثابت، عن أنس: أنَّ أبا طلحة كان يرمي يوم أُحُد بين يدَي رسول الله ﷺ ورسولُ الله ﷺ خَلْفَه، وكان أبو طلحة راميًا، وكان إذا رمى يرفعُ النبي ﷺ شَخْصَه ليَنظُرَ أين يقعُ سهمُه، وكان أبو طلحة يرفع صدره ويقول: هكذا بأبي أنتَ يا رسول الله، لا يُصيبُك سهمٌ، نَحْري دون نَحْرك، وكان أبو طلحة يُودُّ (1) نفسه بين يدي رسولَ الله ﷺ فيقول: يا رسول الله، أنا جَلْدٌ قويٌّ، فمُرْني بما شئتَ (2). هذا حديث صحيح على شرط مسلم، ولم يُخرجاه (3). It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the day of Uhud, Sayyiduna Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) was standing in front of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) shooting arrows, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) was behind him. Abu Talhah was a skilled archer. Whenever he shot, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would raise his blessed head to see where his arrow landed. Then Abu Talhah would thrust out his chest and say: "O Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother be sacrificed for you! (Do not raise your blessed head,) lest an arrow strike you. My chest is a shield before your chest." Abu Talhah would put himself forward in front of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and say: "O Messenger of Allah, I am strong and sturdy, so command me with whatever you wish."
