Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is sahih.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The narrator "al-Hasan" is al-Hasan al-Basri, "Qatadah" is Qatadah bin Di'amah al-Sadusi, and "Hisham al-Dastuwa'i" is Hisham bin Abi Abd Allah.
Reference / Source: Imam Abu Dawud narrated it (2656) with the chain of Muslim bin Ibrahim.
Reference / Source: Imam Abu Dawud himself also narrated it (2656) via the route of Abd al-Rahman bin Mahdi from Hisham al-Dastuwa'i.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ma'mar bin Rashid, contradicting Hisham, transmitted it as a saying of al-Hasan al-Basri (mawquf): "I found the Companions regarding it as recommended to keep the voice low at funerals, at the recitation of the Qur'an and in fighting".
Reference / Source: Musannaf Abd al-Razzaq (6281).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Matar al-Warraq also contradicted Hisham, but Hisham al-Dastuwa'i is the most trustworthy of people in the narrations of Qatadah.
Important point: Imam Shu'bah said that Hisham knew the hadith of Qatadah better than he did and sat in his gatherings more than he did.
