Sayyiduna Abu Rimthah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and with him (peace and blessings be upon him) were some people of Rabi'ah disputing over a case of blood, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) was saying: "The upper hand is better than the lower hand. (Spend on) your mother, your father, your sister and your brother, then whoever is nearest to you, then whoever is nearest." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abu Rimthah, who is this with you?" I said: "My son." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, he will not bear the guilt of your crime, nor will you bear the guilt of his." I looked, and near the bone of his shoulder there was something like a camel's dropping or a pigeon's egg. I said: "Shall I not treat you for this? I am from a family of physicians." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He who placed it there will treat it."

Sayyiduna Abu Rimthah al-Taymi (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I set out with my father towards the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When I saw him (peace and blessings be upon him), my father said to me: "Do you know who this is?" I said: "No." He said: "This is the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." When he said this to me, a shiver came over me, for I used to think that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would be some being unlike ordinary people, whereas he (peace and blessings be upon him) was a human being with hair reaching his shoulders, bearing a trace of henna, and wearing two green sheets. My father greeted him, then the two of them sat talking for a while. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to my father: "Is this your son?" He said: "Yes, by the Lord of the Ka'bah." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Truly?" He said: "Truly, I bear witness to it." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) smiled, because of the confirmation of my resemblance to my father and my father's swearing about me. Then he said: "Indeed, he will not bear the guilt of your crime, nor will you bear the guilt of his." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: "No bearer of burdens shall bear the burden of another." [Surah al-An'am: 164] And my father saw something like a swelling between his (peace and blessings be upon him) shoulders and said: "I am among the most skilled of physicians; shall I not treat it?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Leave it; its physician is the One who created it."

Azraq bin Qays (may Allah have mercy on him) said: An imam of ours, who was called by the kunyah Abu Rimthah, was leading us in the Asr prayer in our place of prayer, and with us was a man who had caught the first takbir of the prayer. When Abu Rimthah finished the prayer, that man (immediately) stood up to pray more. Abu Rimthah looked at him and said: I prayed this prayer with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). At that time Abu Bakr and Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) were standing in the front row on his (peace and blessings be upon him) right side, and a man who had caught the first takbir of the prayer prayed with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave the salam to the right and the left, until we saw the whiteness of both his (peace and blessings be upon him) cheeks. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) turned round and sat facing the people. The man who had caught the first takbir with him (peace and blessings be upon him) (immediately) stood up to pray more, and Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) suddenly leapt towards him, took hold of both his shoulders and shook him, then said: Sit down, for the People of the Book were brought to ruin only because there was no separation between their prayers. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his gaze towards the one who had said this and said: "O Ibn al-Khattab, Allah has made you speak what is right."
