Ikrimah from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him)

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I was helped by the saba (the east wind), and the people of Ad were destroyed by the dabur (the west wind)."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to prostrate on a mat-like cloth.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: In the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), the people differed about (sighting) the new moon. Then a Bedouin came and testified that he had seen it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Do you testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that I am the Messenger of Allah?" He said: Yes. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him), and he announced: "Tomorrow is a fast."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "There was no woman with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) who had given herself to him (in marriage)."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "They were traders whom no trade or buying and selling distracted from the remembrance of Allah."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade blowing into food, drink and fruit.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not revile Tubba', for he had accepted faith."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Upon every joint of a human being there is (due) a prayer every day." Some of the people said: This is very difficult, O Messenger of Allah! He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, enjoining good and forbidding evil is a prayer, carrying (a burden) for the weak is a prayer, and every step that one of you takes towards the prayer is a prayer."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Upon every Muslim a prayer is due, and every step that one of you takes towards the prayer is a prayer."

Ikrimah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a man from Banu Abs, who was called Khalid bin Sinan, said to his people: I will extinguish the fire of al-Hadathan (a well-known mysterious fire) for you. Thereupon a man from his people, Umarah bin Ziyad, said to him: By Allah! O Khalid, you have never told us anything but the truth; what have you to do with the fire of al-Hadathan? Do you claim that you will extinguish it? So Umarah bin Ziyad set out with him along with some people of his tribe, until they reached that fire, which was coming out of a cleft in a mountain, in a stony tract called Harrat Ashja'. Khalid drew a line for them and seated them within it, and said: If I am slow in coming back to you, do not call me by my name. Then it (the fire) came out as though it were reddish horses following one another. Khalid went to face it and began striking it with his staff, saying these rajaz words: "Bada bada kull huda murda" (an old rajaz saying whose meaning is not clear), and he said: The son of the goat-herding woman claims that I will not come out of it with my clothes still moist. Then he entered the cleft along with that fire, and was slow in returning. Umarah bin Ziyad said: By Allah! If your companion were alive, he would have come out to you by now. The people said: He forbade us from calling him by his name. He said: Then call him by his name. So he came out to them holding his head and said: Did I not forbid you from calling me by my name? By Allah! You have killed me. So bury me, then when donkeys pass by you among which is a tailless donkey, dig me out, and you will find me alive. Then donkeys passed by them among which was a tailless donkey, and the people said: Dig him out, for he ordered us to dig him out. Umarah bin Ziyad said to them: Let it not be said among (the tribe of) Mudar that we dig up our dead. By Allah! You will never dig him up. Khalid had also told them that in his wife's baggage there were two tablets, and had said: When any matter becomes difficult for you, look into them, and you will find what you wish to ask about; and he had said: Let no menstruating woman touch them. So when they returned to his wife and asked her about them, she brought them out while she was menstruating, and the knowledge that was in them departed. Abu Yunus said that Simak related: The son of Khalid bin Sinan came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Welcome to the son of my brother."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade that a man should lie skin to skin with a man, or a woman with a woman.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade muhaqalah and muzabanah. Ikrimah used to dislike the sale of qasil (green crop cut before ripening).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Seek Laylat al-Qadr in the last ten nights of Ramadan."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had a coat of armour pledged with a Jew, and he did not find the means to redeem it until he passed away.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent one of his Companions to a Jewish man to kill him. He said: O Messenger of Allah! Permit me to say something. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Say whatever comes to you, for war is deception."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The adulterer, at the time he commits adultery, is not a believer." Ikrimah said: I said to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): Then how is faith taken away? He said: "Like this" - and while describing it he interlaced his fingers, then pulled them apart - "then when he repents, faith returns to him in the same way."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about a slave whose master marries him off; it was asked: In whose hand is the divorce? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "In the hand of the one who holds the shin" (that is, the one who is in the marriage is the one entitled to divorce).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) as a marfu' report (according to the narrator's view, Ikrimah narrated it as marfu'): The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever leaves snakes alone for fear of their pursuit is not one of us."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Sacrifice and slaughter were made obligatory upon me, while they were not made obligatory upon you; and I was commanded to perform the duha (forenoon) prayer, while you were not commanded to do so."

It is narrated from Ikrimah as a marfu' report: "Sacrifice was made obligatory upon me, while it was not made obligatory upon you; and I was commanded to perform the duha (forenoon) prayer, while you were not commanded to do so."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), on the day of Ashura, sent a message to a village that was at a distance of four or two farsakhs: "Whoever has not eaten, let him complete his fast; and whoever has eaten, let him not eat for the rest of the day."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A woman is not to be married in addition to her paternal aunt (i.e. while her paternal aunt is in the man's marriage), nor in addition to her maternal aunt."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is not permissible to cause harm, nor to repay harm with harm. A man has the right to place a beam on his neighbour's wall. And when you are in doubt about (the width of) a road, make it seven cubits."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: During the campaign of Ta'if, a piece of cheese was brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and his Companions began poking at it with their sticks, saying: We fear that there may be (something of) carrion in it. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Put the knife into it and mention the name of Allah over it."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not enter the Ka'bah during the Hajj, but he entered it in the year of the Conquest of Makkah. When he came down, he prayed four rak'ahs, or he said: two rak'ahs, between the Black Stone and the door, facing the Ka'bah, and he said: "This is the qiblah."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed three rak'ahs and then concluded with the salam. So Dhu al-Shimalayn said: O Messenger of Allah! Has the prayer been shortened? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Is it so, O Dhu al-Yadayn?" He said: Yes. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed one rak'ah and performed two prostrations.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is no believing servant but that he has a sin to which he returns time after time, or a sin which he persists in and does not leave until he departs (this world). Indeed, the believer has been created prone to trial, oft-repenting and forgetful; when he is reminded, he remembers."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When the honoured man of a people comes to you, honour him."

Ikrimah narrates from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): "He (peace and blessings be upon him) only said concerning the wet dream: water (ghusl) is due because of water (emission)."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "It is not proper for anyone to send salah (blessings) in this way upon anyone, except upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to have nabidh made from raisins; he would drink it that day and the next day, then if it was the third day he would drink it, otherwise he would pour it away.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to wear his ring on his right hand.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever takes care of an orphan, whether his own or someone else's, Paradise becomes binding for him, unless he has done a deed that is not forgiven. And whoever loses his two precious eyes, Paradise also becomes binding for him, unless he has done a deed that is not forgiven."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) singled us out for three things: that we perform ablution completely, that we do not eat charity (sadaqah), and that we do not mate donkeys with mares."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was sitting with Sayyidah Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) when Jibril (peace be upon him) came to him and said: O Muhammad! Convey my greeting of peace (salam) to Khadijah, and give her the glad tidings of a house in Paradise made of pearl, in which there is neither any harm nor any toil.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the mujaththamah (an animal tied up and made a target), the jallalah (an animal that eats filth), and drinking from the mouth of a waterskin.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the mujaththamah, the jallalah, and drinking from the mouth of a waterskin.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade drinking from the mouth of a waterskin, the mujaththamah, and the milk of the jallalah.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever would be pleased to have his life lengthened and his provision increased, let him maintain the ties of kinship."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed the men who adopt the ways of women and the women who adopt the ways of men.
