It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the husband of Barirah (may Allah be pleased with her) was a slave called Mughith. It is as if I am looking at him now, following her about weeping, his tears flowing down onto his beard. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him): "O Abbas, are you not amazed at the intensity of Mughith's love for Barirah, and the intensity of Barirah's dislike for Mughith?" Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Barirah: "It would be better if you went back to him; he is the father of your children." She said: O Messenger of Allah, are you commanding me? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I am only interceding." She said: Then I have no need of him.

Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Fadl (may Allah be pleased with him): "Go to your mother and bring a drink from her house for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Give me to drink from here." It was said: "O Messenger of Allah! People put their hands in it." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Give me to drink." So he (peace and blessings be upon him) drank from it. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Zamzam, where the people were drawing water and working, and he said: "Keep working, for you are engaged in a righteous deed." Then he said: "Were it not for the fear that you would be overwhelmed by the crowd, I would come down myself and place this on my shoulder," meaning that he pointed towards his shoulder.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! When I eat meat, my desire for women is aroused and lust overcomes me, so I have made meat unlawful for myself." Thereupon Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, revealed this verse: "O you who believe! Do not make unlawful the good things that Allah has made lawful for you, and do not transgress; indeed, Allah does not love the transgressors. And eat of what Allah has provided you, lawful and good." [Surah al-Ma'idah: 88]
