Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went out on a military expedition, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) could not finish with them (the enemy) until the Asr prayer was delayed into the evening, beyond the time he (peace and blessings be upon him) used to observe. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) finished with them, he saw that the time of the Asr prayer had reached the evening, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed. After finishing the prayer, he (peace and blessings be upon him) invoked against his enemy, saying: "O Allah! Whoever kept us from the middle prayer, fill their houses with fire, fill their bellies with fire, and fill their graves with fire."

Ikrimah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was on one of his military expeditions, and a man said: O Messenger of Allah! What do you say about the children (of the enemy) who are absorbed in play? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent and gave him no answer, until the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) finished his expedition and moved on (with the army). Suddenly a child (was seen who) had fallen from a litter (a camel-saddle), and the caller called out: Where is the one who asked about the playing children? So the man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade killing their children and said: "Allah knows best what they would have done (had they grown up)."

Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated that when Surah al-Nasr was revealed, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) called Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) and said: "I have been informed of my death." She wept, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to her: "Do not weep, for you will be the first of my family to join me." At this she laughed. One of the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw her and said to her: I saw you weep and laugh!
