Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 11877 — the Prophet ﷺ said on the Day

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said on the Day of the Conquest (of Makkah): "Indeed Allah, exalted be His remembrance, made Makkah sacred on the day He created the heavens and the earth, so it is sacred by the sanctity of Allah until the Day of Resurrection. Its game is not to be startled, its trees are not to be cut, its grass is not to be uprooted, and its lost property is not lawful except for one who announces it." At this, Abbas bin Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Except idhkhir (a fragrant grass), O Messenger of Allah, for it is indispensable for the blacksmiths and the houses. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent for a while, then said: "Except idhkhir; it is lawful."
