Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is not lawful for anyone who believes in Allah Almighty and the Last Day to untie the udder of a she-camel without the permission of its owner, for it bears their seal. And when you are in a wilderness and you see a skin of milk (here the narrator is in doubt about the word, but the meaning is this), then call out three times to the owners of the camels; if they give you to drink, then drink, otherwise not. And if you are murmil (Abu al-Nadr says: that is, you have no food with you), then let two of you hold it, and then drink." (Allamah Haythami says:) I say: Imam Ibn Majah recorded part of this narration without this wording.
Imam Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Umayr (may Allah be pleased with him), the slave of Sayyiduna Abi al-Lahm, narrates: I came with my masters intending to emigrate. When we drew near to Madinah, they left me behind with their animals. The narrator says: I was struck by severe hunger. A person passed by me who had come out of Madinah, and he said: It would be good if you went into Madinah and got some dates from its orchards. The narrator says: I entered an orchard and broke off two clusters from it. The owner of the orchard came to me and took me to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he told the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about me. I had two garments on my body. He asked: Which of these two is superior (that is, which is better)? I pointed to one of them, indicating that it was this one. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You take this one, give the other garment to the owner of the orchard, and let him go.
Imam Ahmad recorded it, and Imam Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, though he narrated these words: I cut two clusters from a date palm. And at the end of this narration the words are: He asked me: Which of these two is better? I pointed to one of them, and he ordered me to take it and to give the other to the owner of the orchard.

In a narration recorded by Imam Ahmad, also from Sayyiduna Umayr (may Allah be pleased with him), the words are: He narrates: I was grazing animals at Dhat al-Jaysh, and I was struck by hunger. I mentioned this to some of the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and they told me about an orchard belonging to one of the Ansar. I broke off some clusters from it; they seized me and took me to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I told the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about my need, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave me one cluster and returned all the rest to its owner. The chain of the second narration contains a narrator, Ibn Lahi'ah, and the hadith he narrates is hasan (good). The chain of the first narration contains a narrator, Abu Bakr bin al-Muhajir, whom Ibn Abi Hatim mentioned, but he did not record any criticism (jarh) or commendation (ta'dil) of him; the remaining narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) reports about the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): A Bedouin man came to him seeking his ruling about what is forbidden to him and what is lawful for him, and he asked about the offspring of his animals, his livestock, his she-goat, and the fara' (first-born young) of his camels and sheep. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: Pure things are lawful for you and impure things are forbidden to you; however, if you become in need of food, then the matter is different: it will be lawful for you to the extent that you eat from it until you no longer need it. At that time the man asked him: What is meant by my poverty? And what is it that, when I reach it, I may eat such food? And what is that prosperity of mine which will make me independent of it? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When you are hoping for your animal to give birth, then sustain yourself with the meat of your animals until the birth; or if you are hoping for a cloud that will rain, then sustain yourself with the meat of your animals until it comes; or if you are hoping for provisions (supplies of grain) to reach you, then sustain yourself with the meat of your animals until then; and if you are hoping for none of these, then feed your family whatever seems suitable to you until you become independent of it. The Bedouin asked: What is that prosperity of mine which, when I find it, I should give that up? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: When you have given your family their fill of milk, then avoid the food that has been made forbidden to you. As for your wealth, all of it is easy (and permissible) for you; there is nothing forbidden in it, except that among the young of your camels there is a fara' (first-born), and among the young of your sheep there is a fara', which your animal will nourish until it becomes independent; then, if you wish, feed its meat to your family, and if you wish, give its meat in charity. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded him regarding the "'itr" of sheep that there be one 'atirah for every hundred.

Mikhwal al-Nahdi, then al-Sulami, who lived in both the Jahiliyyah and Islam, narrates: I set up a snare at al-Abwa', and a young deer got caught in one of its cords. It ran off with the cord, and I went after it, following it, and I found a man who had caught it. The two of us disputed over it, and we presented our case before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). We found him encamped at al-Abwa' under a tree, shaded by a leather sheet. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ruled concerning it that it would be divided between the two of us in two halves. I said: "O Messenger of Allah! This is my cord, which is on its leg." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is as it is." I said: "O Messenger of Allah! We come to some water, and camels come to us there that are thirsty. Shall we give them water, and will we have a reward for that?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes! You will have a reward for doing good to every living being." I said: "O Messenger of Allah! What if we come across stray camels whose udders have not been milked, and we are hungry?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Say: 'O owner of the camels!' If someone comes, well and good; otherwise, remove the cloth tied over its udder, milk it and drink, then tie the cloth back, and leave in it what will bring the milk down again." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) began to say: "Soon a time will come upon people when the best wealth will be goats between the two mosques" - the narrator said: meaning between (the mosque of) Madinah and the mosque of Makkah - "they will eat the leaves of the trees and come down to the water; their owner will eat of their clarified butter and wear (clothing made) from their wool" - (the narrator is unsure; perhaps the words are:) "from their hair" - "while tribulations will be circling among the Arabs and blood will be shed." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said this three times. I said: "O Messenger of Allah! Give me some advice." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Fear Allah Almighty! Establish the prayer, pay the zakah, perform Hajj and Umrah, be dutiful to your parents, maintain the ties of kinship, honour the guest, enjoin what is good, forbid what is evil, and remain with the truth wherever it is."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Muhammad bin Sulayman bin Masmul, who is da'if (weak).

Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) were struck by hunger in the blessed time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Two men came and looked over the wall of a garden, and there were date palms in the garden. One of them jumped over the wall and went in, while the other was afraid. The one who went in started eating dates, and when he was full, he began gathering them into his garment. The owner of the garden came, snatched his garment from him and tied him to a date palm; he took a stick and beat the man with it. Then he took him to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "I found this man in my garden eating, and when he was full, he began gathering dates into his garment." The man said: "O Messenger of Allah! My companion and I came, and we were both hungry. I went down into the garden, while my companion was afraid. I ate dates and took some for my companion, but then this man came and treated me in such and such a way." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go and give him his garment, and measure out for him one wasq in place of the beating you gave him." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Ibn Majah has also recorded a hadith from this Companion, other than this one.
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Abdullah bin Aradah, whom Abu Dawud declared thiqah (trustworthy), while a group declared him da'if (weak).
