Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) states: A Bedouin gave something to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him something in return and asked him: Are you pleased? He replied: No! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him more and asked: Are you pleased? He replied: No! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him more and asked: Are you pleased now? He replied: Yes! Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I have resolved that henceforth I will accept something only from a man of Quraysh, or of the Ansar, or of Thaqif.
Imam Ahmad and Imam al-Bazzar recorded it; he states: A Bedouin presented it as a gift (ahda); he used this word in place of the word "hibah" (gave).
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, with these words: He gave a she-camel, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him something in return for it. The narrators of Imam Ahmad are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) states: A man was nicknamed "Himar" (donkey). He gave the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) a skin of ghee and a skin of honey as a gift. When the man concerned came (that is, the one from whom he had bought those things) and demanded payment from him, he brought him to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! Please pay the price of these goods. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did nothing more than smile, and then he ordered that he be paid, and he was paid.

Sayyidah Umm Sunbulah (may Allah be pleased with her) states: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with a gift, but the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) refused to take it. They said: We do not take any gift. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came and said: Take Umm Sunbulah's gift! For she is our desert-dweller, and we are her town-dwellers. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) granted that woman such-and-such a valley. Abdullah bin Hasan bin Hasan bin Ali bin Abi Talib bought that place from them (that woman's descendants). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had also given that woman a few camels. Amr bin Qayzi states: I have seen some of them. Abu Kurayb states: I asked Zayd bin al-Hubab: Who gave her that? He replied: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

Sayyidah Aishah Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) states: Umm Sunbulah presented milk to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) as a gift, but she did not find the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) (at home). I said to her: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has forbidden us from eating the food of the Bedouins. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came home, and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was with him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: O Umm Sunbulah! What is this you have? The woman said: It is milk which I brought to give you as a gift, O Messenger of Allah! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Pour it out, Umm Sunbulah! She poured it. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Give it to Abu Bakr! She did so. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Umm Sunbulah! Pour it out. She poured it. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Hand it to Aishah. She handed it to Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), and Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) also drank. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Pour it out, Umm Sunbulah! Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) states: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was drinking milk, which is the most wholesome and the most cooling for the liver; then Sayyidah Aishah said: O Messenger of Allah! I had said that you forbid the food of the Bedouins. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Aishah! These people are not Bedouins; they are the people of our open country, and we are the people of their towns. When they are called, they respond. These people are not Bedouins.
