Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, Allah Almighty has made zakah obligatory upon the well-off among the Muslims, in their wealth, in a measure that suffices their poor, so that the poor would face no hardship when they are hungry and in need of clothing, except for what their well-off people squander. Listen! Allah Almighty will take a severe reckoning from them and will punish them with a painful punishment."
