Amr bin Ya'la bin Murrah al-Thaqafi reports from his father, from his grandfather: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wearing a large gold ring. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Do you pay its zakah?" He said: "O Messenger of Allah, what would its zakah be?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There will be a large live coal upon it."
Ahmad, and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, recorded it, but the latter's wording is: Sayyiduna Ya'la (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and on my hand was a gold ring; then the narrator mentioned the hadith as before. Its chain contains a narrator, Uthman bin Ya'la, from whom no one other than his father has narrated.

Sayyidah Asma' bint Yazid (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: My maternal aunt and I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and my aunt was wearing gold bracelets. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked us: "Do you pay its zakah?" We said: "No." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you two not fear that Allah Almighty will make you wear bracelets of fire? Pay its zakah."
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: There is a narration from Sayyidah Asma' (may Allah be pleased with her) which Abu Dawud recorded; it concerns the ring, and it contains no mention of zakah.
Ahmad recorded it, and its chain is hasan (good).

Muhammad bin Ziyad narrates: I heard Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) when he was asked about the ornamentation of a sword: "Is it also counted as treasure?" He replied: "Yes, it counts as treasure." A man said: "This is a foolish old man whose mind has gone." Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I have told you only what I have heard."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator, Baqiyyah, who is thiqah (trustworthy) but a mudallis (one who conceals defects in the chain).

It is reported about Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that a woman asked him about her jewellery: "Is zakah due on it?" He said: "When its value reaches two hundred dirhams, pay its zakah." The woman said: "There are some orphans in my care; may I give that zakah to them?" He said: "Yes."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy); however, the narrator Ibrahim did not hear from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him).
