Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Soon a time will come upon people when their hearts will be like the hearts of the 'Ajam (non-Arabs)." I asked: "What is meant by the hearts of the 'Ajam?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Love of the world." He said: "Their way will be the way of the Bedouins: whatever provision comes to them, they will spend it on animals; they will regard jihad as a harm and zakah as a penalty."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Baqiyyah bin al-Walid, who is thiqah (trustworthy) but a mudallis (one who conceals defects in the chain); the rest of its narrators have been declared trustworthy.
