Sayyiduna Buraydah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whatever of their lands, their slaves and their livestock they hold when they accept Islam will remain theirs, and nothing will be due from them on these things except zakah."
Ahmad, al-Bazzar and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat recorded it, except that the latter two narrated these words: the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said concerning the dhimmis (non-Muslim subjects): "Whatever they hold when they accept Islam will remain their property." Its chain contains Layth bin Abi Sulaym; he has been declared trustworthy, but he is a mudallis (one who conceals defects in the chain).
