Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When this was revealed to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "When the help of Allah and the victory come," whenever the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited it, he would say the takbir and go into bowing, and he would say: "Subhanakallahumma wa bihamdika, Allahummaghfir li, innaka antat-Tawwabur-Rahim (Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise be to You; O Allah, forgive me, indeed You are the Accepter of repentance, the Most Merciful)."
Imam Ahmad, Imam Abu Ya'la, Imam al-Bazzar, and Imam al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat recorded it. In the chains of the three it is mentioned that Abu Ubaydah narrated it from his father, although he did not hear from his father. The narrators of al-Tabarani are the narrators of the Sahih, except for the narrator Hammad, who is thiqah (trustworthy) but suffered from confusion (ikhtilat).

Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I have been forbidden to recite (the Qur'an) in bowing or prostration. So when you bow, acknowledge the greatness of Allah Almighty, and when you prostrate, strive earnestly in supplication, for it is fitting that it be answered for you."
Abdullah recorded it in his Ziyadat; Imam Abu Ya'la recorded it as a mawquf (Companion's own statement) narration; and Imam al-Bazzar also recorded it. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: In the Sahih, only this part of it is mentioned: "I have been forbidden to recite (the Qur'an) in bowing and prostration." Its chain contains Abd al-Rahman bin Ishaq bin al-Harith, who is da'if (weak) according to all of them.

Sayyidah Aishah Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: It was my appointed night with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) slipped out of bed, and I thought that perhaps he was going to one of his other wives. So I too went out, feeling jealous, and I saw that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was in prostration, like a garment cast on the ground. I heard him saying: "My being and my thought have prostrated to You, and my heart has believed in You. O my Lord, this is my hand and what I have committed against myself. O Mighty One, who is hoped for in every great matter, forgive the great sin." Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his head and asked: "Why did you come out?" Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) replied: "A suspicion came to my mind." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Some suspicion is a sin; seek forgiveness from Allah Almighty. Jibril came to me and told me to say these words that you have just heard. You too should say them in your prostration, for whoever says these words, he will be forgiven before he raises his head" (here the narrator is unsure about one word).
