Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked Sayyiduna Jibril: "Which part of the earth is best?" He replied: "I do not know." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Ask your Lord about it." The narrator says: Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) wept and said: "O Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), is it for us to ask Him? He tells us whatever He wills." Then he went up to the sky, then came back to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him: "The best part of the earth is the houses of Allah on the earth." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Which part of the earth is the worst?" He went up to the sky again, then came back to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him: "The worst part of the earth is the markets."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Ubayd bin Waqid al-Qaysi, who is da'if (weak).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: A man asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Which part of the earth is best, and which part is worst?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The best part is the mosques, and the worst part is the markets."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Ata' bin al-Sa'ib, who is thiqah (trustworthy), but he suffered confusion (ikhtilat) in the last part of his life; the remaining narrators of this report have been declared trustworthy.

Sayyiduna Wathilah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The worst places are the markets and the roads, and the best places are the mosques. If you do not sit in the mosque, then stay in your home."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Bakkar bin Tamim, about whom the author of "al-Mizan" says: He is majhul (unknown).

Sayyiduna Jubayr bin Mut'im (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man submitted: "O Messenger of Allah, which of the lands is most beloved to Allah Almighty, and which of the lands (that is, which part of the earth) is most hated by Allah Almighty?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I do not know; I will ask Jibril about it." When Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) came to him, Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) informed him: "The best part in the sight of Allah Almighty is the mosques, and the most hated part in the sight of Allah Almighty is the markets."
Imam al-Bazzar recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqil, about whom there is disagreement as to whether he can be used as evidence. Imam Ahmad has it from Sayyiduna Jubayr bin Mut'im (may Allah be pleased with him) through another chain without mention of the mosques, and Imam Abu Ya'la also recorded it; that narration will come later in the chapter on buying and selling, if Allah wills.

Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would pray even at a place where Sayyiduna Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) or Sayyiduna Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) had urinated, and he said: "When a servant performs one prostration for Allah Almighty, Allah Almighty purifies the place of his prostration down to the seven earths."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and the narrator Buzaygh has been accused of fabricating hadith.

Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray in the nearby part of the house. Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) submitted to him: "O Messenger of Allah, sometimes you pray at a place where a menstruating woman has passed. It would be more fitting if you set aside a place for prayer where you would pray." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Aishah, I am surprised at you! Do you not know that the prostration of a believer purifies that place down to the seventh earth?"
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; the narrator Abdullah bin Salih was declared da'if (weak) by the majority, while Abd al-Malik bin Shu'ayb says: He is thiqah (trustworthy) and reliable (ma'mun).
