Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 1927

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: A man asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Which part of the earth is best, and which part is worst?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The best part is the mosques, and the worst part is the markets."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Ata' bin al-Sa'ib, who is thiqah (trustworthy), but he suffered confusion (ikhtilat) in the last part of his life; the remaining narrators of this report have been declared trustworthy.
