Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) states: Once during a journey we were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He heard a mu'adhdhin giving the adhan. When he said "Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar (Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest)," the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "He is upon the fitrah (natural disposition)." When he said "Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah (I bear witness that there is no god but Allah)," the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "He has come out of Hell." We hurried towards that man, and he turned out to be a man among his livestock; the time of prayer had come, so he had given the adhan for it.
