Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) states: One day the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went out, and with him were Sayyiduna Abu Bakr, Sayyiduna Umar, Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b and Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was riding his she-camel al-Jad'a'. When he came out beyond the settlement, he heard a man saying "Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar (Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest)." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stopped and listened attentively. When he said "Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar," the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "By the One in whose hand is my soul, he has borne the testimony of truth." When he recited "Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah (I bear witness that there is no god but Allah)," the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Regarding this man, I consider, by the One in whose hand is my soul, that he has come out of Hell." He said this three times. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "This will be a man with dogs (who has gone out to hunt)." Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) went and found the man just so.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator, Ali bin Yazid al-Alhani, who is da'if (weak).
