وَعَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ عَسَّالٍ قَالَ : بَيْنَا نَحْنُ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - إِذْ سَمِعَ رَجُلًا يُؤَذِّنُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " عَلَى الْفِطْرَةِ " ، فَقَالَ : أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ ، فَقَالَ : " شَهِدَ الْحَقَّ " ، فَقَالَ : أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ، فَقَالَ : " خَرَجَ مِنَ النَّارِ " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ ، وَفِيهِ عَطَاءُ بْنُ عَجْلَانَ وَهُوَ مُتَّهَمٌ بِالْكَذِبِ مَتْرُوكُ الْحَدِيثِ .

Sayyiduna Safwan bin Assal (may Allah be pleased with him) states: Once we were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when he heard a man giving the adhan. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "He is upon the fitrah (natural disposition)." He said "Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah (I bear witness that there is no god but Allah)," and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "He has borne true witness." He recited "Ashhadu anna Muhammadan rasulullah (I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah)," and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "He has come out of Hell."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator, Ata' bin Ajlan, who has been accused of lying, and he is matruk al-hadith (abandoned in hadith).
