Sayyiduna Abu Juhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) states: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was travelling, and he heard someone saying "Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar (Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest)" (that is, he heard him giving the adhan). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "This is the call of truth." He said "Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah (I bear witness that there is no god but Allah)," and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "This is the word of sincerity (ikhlas)." He recited "Ashhadu anna Muhammadan rasulullah (I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah)," and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "The one who says this has come out of Hell." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "You will find this man to be an owner of goats, or a man with dogs who is out hunting."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator, Musa bin Muhammad bin Hibban, whom Imam Abu Zur'ah declared da'if (weak). Ibn Hibban mentioned him in his book al-Thiqat and stated that he sometimes narrates contrary to others. The remaining narrators of this narration are thiqat (trustworthy).
