It is reported about Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a man asked: How much water will suffice me for ablution? He replied: One mudd. He asked: And how much water will suffice me for the ritual bath (ghusl)? He replied: One sa'. The man said: That will not be enough for me. He said: May you be motherless! It used to suffice one who was better than you, that is, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
Imam Ahmad, Imam al-Bazzar, and Imam al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir recorded this narration, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

In al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, on the authority of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both),
this report is recorded: the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "One mudd (of water) suffices for ablution, and one sa' (of water) for the ritual bath." Its chain contains a narrator, Abd al-Aziz bin Abd al-Rahman al-Balisi, on whose weakness the hadith scholars are agreed.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), similar to this.
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: The hadith of Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) was recorded by Imam Abu Dawud and others, while the hadith narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), Sayyidah Aishah Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) and Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) revolves around a narrator named Muslim bin Kaysan al-Mula'i. Shu'bah and Sufyan narrated hadith from him, but a large group (of scholars) declared him "da'if" (weak), and some of them said that he suffered from ikhtilat (memory deterioration). It appears that Shu'bah and Sufyan would have narrated from him only those reports which the two of them heard from him before his memory deteriorated. And Allah knows best.

Yahya bin Ma'in says: Sinan bin Harun is the brother of Sayf bin Harun, and he is in a better condition than his brother. Imam al-Nasa'i (may Allah have mercy on him) declared him "da'if" (weak).

Umm Kulthum bint Abdullah bin Zam'ah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that her grandmother, Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her), the wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), handed her a vessel made of brass and said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to take the ritual bath with it.
