Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 1099

It is reported about Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a man asked: How much water will suffice me for ablution? He replied: One mudd. He asked: And how much water will suffice me for the ritual bath (ghusl)? He replied: One sa'. The man said: That will not be enough for me. He said: May you be motherless! It used to suffice one who was better than you, that is, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
Imam Ahmad, Imam al-Bazzar, and Imam al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir recorded this narration, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
