Sayyiduna Abu al-Darda' (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ablution from a vessel on the bank of a river; when he finished, he poured the leftover water into the river.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this report in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Abu Bakr bin Abi Maryam, who suffered from ikhtilat (memory deterioration), and because of his ikhtilat his hadith was abandoned.
