Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I fear three things for you, and they will certainly come to pass: the slip of a scholar, the hypocrite's disputing on the basis of the Qur'an, and the world being opened up for you."
Tabarani recorded it in all three (of his Mu'jams); its chain contains Abd al-Hakim bin Mansur, who is matruk al-hadith (abandoned in hadith).

Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Beware of three things: the slip of a scholar, the hypocrite's disputing by means of the Qur'an, and the world cutting your necks. As for the slip of a scholar: if he is rightly guided, do not blindly follow him in your religion, and if he slips, do not cut off your hopes from him. As for the hypocrite's disputing by means of the Qur'an: the Qur'an is a beacon of light, just as there are beacons for a road; whatever seems known (ma'ruf) to you, take it, and whatever seems unfamiliar (munkar) to you, refer it back to the one who knows it. As for the world cutting your necks: whoever Allah Almighty places richness in his heart, he is rich."
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. The narrator Amr bin Murrah did not hear from Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him). Likewise, Abdullah bin Salih, the scribe of al-Layth, was declared thiqah (trustworthy) by Abd al-Malik bin Shu'ayb bin al-Layth, and according to one report Yahya also declared him trustworthy, while Ahmad and a group (of scholars) declared him da'if (weak).

As for the believer, his faith will protect him; as for the polytheist, his disbelief will ruin him. Rather, I fear for you a hypocrite who is skilled in speech; he will say what seems known (ma'ruf) to you and do what seems objectionable (munkar) to you."
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat and al-Mu'jam al-Saghir; the chain of this report contains a narrator named al-Harith al-A'war, who is extremely da'if (weak).

The people asked: What is meant by "harj"? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Killing among you. Then after that a time will come in which people will recite the Qur'an, but it will not go beyond their throats. Then a time will come in which the hypocrite and the polytheist will argue with the believer." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Part of this report is found in the Sahih.
